Disclamer: I do not own Left 4 Dead or any of the characters in it.
Chapter 1
It was deathly quiet outside the saferoom. The survivors had gotten used to opening the door silently, as they left the secure confines of the safe room they raised their weapons in anticipation. After a few tense moments and no zombies, Nick broke the silence.
"Right, I think our best bet is walking that way," Nick said, pointing south with a bruised hand and a tattered sleeve, "maybe we'll find the sea and can get a boat outa here."
Everyone agreed and the weary group headed south, as they walked in silence, Ellis used this quiet time to reflect on the chaotic events that had taken place since the outbreak, what he'd been through in the past four weeks, and what had happened on that day. The day it all went wrong, and left another Keith Story, the final story about Keith, unfinished.
Ellis awoke to the sound of the TV, he had no idea what the time was, but it was a rare event for his parents to have the news on in the morning. Intrigued, he wondered into the living room, he could see his mum sitting on the worn sofa, biting her nails in a sign of agitation.
"Mum, Dad? What's wrong?" Ellis questioned sleepily.
"Shh..." she ushered, "just watch."
Ellis turned to the TV, a panicked reporter stood in a street, people running franticly in the background.
Ellis recognised the street.
It was close.
Words scrolled across the bottom of the screen, reading: "INFECTION OUTBREAK OUT OF CONTROL, INFECTED TOLL RISING."
The screen cut to a man in a riot uniform being interviewed, he was talking about being unable to hold the infected back, he looked into the camera and said; "People of Texas, gather supplies and get out of the country! Prepare for the worst! Its not safe here any more!"
Not safe.
The screen cut again to the reporter in the street.
The street that was close by.
The reporter hurriedly describing the chaos that was ensuing just a few blocks away from Ellis and his family.
A list of evacuation locations replaced the headline at the bottom of the screen. Ellis's mum rushed off to get a pen and paper, carelessly scribbling them down. Ellis's dad started loading the car up with their possessions, leaving the front door open. Ellis helped, chucking a bundle of blankets into the back seat.
Looking across the road, he stared at an open window on the single story building opposite.
"His car is still outside, he must still be in there." Ellis thought.
Still in his crumpled Bull Shifters t-shirt and flannel pyjama trousers, Ellis walked over to Keith's bedroom window, and peered in.
"Son, move!" Coach's booming voice forcefully dragged him back from his thoughts. As he lifted his head, Ellis stared into the eyes of a spitter.
Ah, shit.
"Ellis, get outa the goo!" Nick.
Ellis only just realised that the pain that was coursing through him was from this... green stuff, not because his buddy Keith, the person who used to be his best friend, couldn't witness him kicking ass.
And it was all his fault.

Christina: I just adore the idea of Ellis in flannel pyjamas! I had to add it in! 3
