Chapter 1

"Are you sure Bella? You don't have to do this for me." Edward said, his golden eyes searching my face. We were driving to my house, and I was currently sweating at the thought of explaining to Charlie that his eighteen year old was about to run of and marry a boy she had known for a little over a year.

"Of course I'm ready, Edward. I just… well, I'm just nervous about… I'm worried about how he's going to take it. And if I survive that, I'm still going to have to tell Renee." I groaned at the thought.

"If you're sure, love." I thought I saw the corners of his mouth twitch, but I couldn't be sure. I could tell Edward was driving slowly on purpose, and I couldn't take the suspense.

"Edward" I said sharply. "Please. I want to get this over with, so please speed it up." Without a word, Edward sped the car up, and we got even closer to Charlie's.

Way too soon, we parked in front of the house. I sighed and groaned. "Let's Get this over with." Edward gave me a quick kiss on the cheek, and I made to get out of the car. I tripped, and of course Edward caught me before I hit the ground. Obviously my cheeks reddened. "This day keeps getting worse and worse." I grumbled to myself. Naturally he heard me. He smiled slightly.

As we made our way through the front door, Edward muttered, "Good. Charlie's in a good mood. He's pretty calm." The stress I was feeling lessened a bit.

"Ch- Dad, I'm home!" I called. I hoped he couldn't hear the hysteria in my voice. I walked slowly into the living room with Edward. Charlie was watching some football game on TV. He turned, hearing me enter the room.

"Hey Bells. …Edward." He said, looking at me and then turning to Edward.

"Dad, can I talk to you for sec'?" I asked nervously.

"'Course Bella. You okay? You seem kind of nervous." Of course Charlie chose this night to pay attention.

Oh my god. How am I going to do this? "Um… well… Edward and I are… we-" Charlie cut me off.

"Bella, a-are y-y-you pregnant?" Charlie asked, looking almost scared.

"NO WAY! OF COURSE NOT! WHO DO YOU THINK I AM?" I half yelled at him. I thought I saw Edward smiling. Charlie let out a deep breath. He looked relieved.

"Oh, sorry Bells. 'Thought you were… well… you know." He finished lamely. "What's up then?"

"Dad, Edward proposed to me, and- and I said yes." I held my breath, waiting for his response. Charlie looked a bit upset, but not surprised.

"Well, I can't say I didn't see it coming. Are you absolutely, 100 sure? There's no going back, Bella." I stared. No way. He's not screaming. He hasn't shot Edward. Wow.

"Wait, aren't you mad? I'm getting married at eighteen!" I said, shocked.

"Bella, I'm not mad, just disappointed. I know he loves you, and I know you love him. I want you to be happy."

"Thanks you so much Dad." I made to hug him. "I love you." I said in his ear.

"I love you too, Bella." I smiled. I was unbelievably happy that this went as well as it did. Edward took this as his cue to leave.

"Thank you so much, sir. I'll take good care of your daughter." Charlie nodded, and Edward headed for the door. "Bye, Bella. See you tomorrow!" I said goodbye, knowing I'd see him in five minutes.

"I'm going upstairs, Dad. See you in the morning." I stumbled up the stairs, heading to my room to see Edward. As I opened the door, I saw Edward in my rocking chair. I ran over to him and plopped in his lap. "I missed you." I said as I nestled my head in his neck.

"You too, love." He gently rubbed soothing circles on my back. "You should sleep." I was too tired to answer. Telling Charlie had taken a lot out of me. I simply nodded and drifted into nothingness. Before I was completely asleep, I thought I heard Edward say something like, "I told you it would be okay."
