Author Note: Okay, so there has been no inspiration to this story. I had no idea what I would write. I just felt like writing a one-shot and after quite a while of staring at a blank word document, I just wrote. I know it's really short, but, anyways! !Enjoy!
The woman sat by the window as rain threatened to break through from the other side. A small tear slid down her cheek as she stared into nothing. No noises broke the soothing sound of the rain. She felt as if it were an escape; a camouflage for her reality at stake. For once in a long while, the woman sitting in the chair by the window of her apartment felt calm and relaxed. The past years have been harsh on everyone, yet nobody seemed to see past the beautiful face of China Sorrows. No one ever noticed the slight hesitations of sadness in this woman's voice. Everyone thought she just overlooked the sudden death of her brother. Everyone just simply chose to believe China's simple mask. A mask to hide her troubled soul.
China Sorrows was not only sad these past years, she had been sad for over a century. Day and night, emotions were always welling up inside her, but hidden far away behind her mask of beauty and innocence. Though China had betrayed and done worse in the past, she regretted her mistakes. Her reputation of deceit was not always the most welcoming. Throughout the war and the century, it was shocking that no one ever noticed her feelings. Nobody ever did see past her disguise.
Moving her head down, another tear ran down China's face as she looked at the photo with a sad smile. A photo of a man who she knew would never accept her heart. He would never accept her for who she really was. If he knew some of the things China had done, she would not still be breathing, although her heart was broken a long time ago.
The picture presented a tall handsome man with beautiful features. Dark, scruffy hair outlined his face that focused and blended around two hazel eyes. His tailored suit was of the best quality. China curled up as she remembered the man she once loved, the man who had changed, in his soul, after death. Who has been a different person ever since. China only hoped that one day her love, Skulduggery Pleasant, would turn back into the man she once knew.
