Hiya! This is my first One Tree Hill Fan fiction and I'd really love to know what you think of it
What exactly did Lucas interrupt between Peyton and the dishy bartender?
He's not good enough for you
She was really getting to enjoy the 20 minutes she spent talking to Chris, after Brooke introduced them of course. Dragging Peyton by the arm, she led her to the bar,
'Chris Peyton needs a drink, and she's single.' She winked at Chris and then left to talk with Millicent.
Blushing Peyton smiled at Chris and said 'yeah, can I have a soda please?'
Chris poured a soft drink in front of her on the counter, 'what? Not having anything stronger?' he said amusingly, 'You don't want Brooke Davis to fire me for not serving you properly!'
'No it's just that I'm not really drinking tonight' she said apologetically
Chris raised his eyebrows in mock surprise and said 'no! Don't tell me, you're in high school?' he teased, 'you shouldn't be out alone so late, what would your parents say?' Peyton laughed and took a sip from her drink
'So how do you know Brooke Davis?' he asked her,
'Oh you know we were best friends since we were both eight. We went to the same high school and everything…' she said slowly hoping she didn't sound lame
'Wow,' Chris said, 'so you're that close with the designer eh? I think this means that I have to be extra polite so I don't get my ass kicked later.'
'I hope you're not just talking to me to be polite,' she said to him now slightly worried that the only reason this cute bartender is talking to her is that his boss introduced them, 'if you want I can get out of your hair, I'm probably boring you,'
Chris reached out and put a hand on top of hers on the counter, 'trust me, you are not boring me.' Peyton laughed and just then she felt some one come up behind her, turning she saw Lucas standing close to her and for the first time since her return to Tree Hill, she didn't have butterflies in her stomach.
'You ready to go?' he asked her
'Oh' Peyton had completely lost track of the time, 'actually, I think I'm going to stay a while.' She smiled at her friend, 'so goodnight!' she said in an awkward way
Lucas leaned forward and Peyton thought he was going to kiss her goodnight but instead he brought his mouth close to her ear and said firmly,
'He's not good enough for you.' And with that he walked away form her.
Right then it felt like a door was slammed in her face and a thousand different emotions ran through her head:
First she felt belittled, that Lucas had the nerve to tell her what to do or who to talk to, then that feeling turned to confusions and a thought that maybe, just maybe Lucas still has – no. no way, there never going to happen. Not after what everyone has said about his perfect relationship with Lindsay. Finally she thought how dare he? When she has tried so hard to keep her feelings ignored and at bay and then out of the blue he goes and says something that makes her doubt herself and her heart. Abandoning Chris who was serving someone else at that point, she stormed towards the front entrance where she could see Lucas standing outside as if waiting for someone.
She felt like she should say what was on her mind for once, instead of keeping her mouth shut so not to hurt anyone. She had every right to say what was on her mind. 'Don't do that!' she screamed at him. When he asked her what she was talking about she just got madder.
'He's not good enough for you?!' repeated angrily 'I don't want you saying things like that to me Lucas! It's not fair to me!' especially since she's been trying so hard over the last couple of weeks to get over him, but she didn't say that, instead she added 'it's not fair to Lindsay either.'
And with that she walked away but not before Lucas saw the tears threatening to spill over her cheeks.
I love you,
He thought silently to himself at he watched her walk away angrily.
