Not Quite Love/Hate by Candy Rayne
Disclaimer: If I owned Draco, I wouldn't spend my time writing him.
Harry Potter is no Golden Boy.
He's not a Golden Boy, because Golden Boys don't hate people. They don't wish them dead. And they certainly don't fall in love with those people they don't wish dead.
It's not really denial, he says, because that would mean refusing to believe that he's in love with a git. It's just the truth. The truth is that it's not even possible to love someone who would kill you kissyou in a heartbeat (can you hear his speed up, when he comes near me?). Because no matter what those dreamers say (he used to be one, too), he would do it.
The truth is that there are people so terrible, so absolutely wicked, that they hurt and hate and taunt, knowing, just knowing that he'll come back for more. Because he thinks that he's so special, that he can change those people (you really thought so, didn't you, Potter?), because he is The-Boy-Who-Lived-To-Be-An-Idiot.
The truth is that there are people who live to ruin him.
Draco Malfoy isn't on that list.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Draco taunts.
Taunting Harry for hating him, craving him, shaming him, loving him (keep telling yourself that, Malfoy). Taunting, no, daring, even himself. To take it a little further the next time. Because if he doesn't, Potter will.
And if Potter ever does (fantasizing, are you?), Draco just might crack.
It's easier to keep it this way, where he is the great Draco of lore, his name carried on a whisper like something that might slip away (but I was never yours), and always accompanied by a knowing giggle. Because that way, he can act like a prick. He can act like Potter is just another victim of his legendary hallway attacks. Like it's impossible for Potter to refuse. And like he could care less.
And no, this does not mean that he cares for Potter. "Caring more" doesn't mean that he's head-over-heels in love with him. "Caring more" is just that. Not enough that it matters, but a step above hate.
This is no love/hate relationship, despite what you may think. There is no love involved. But if mutual hating could spark something so torrid …well, then we may have something.
A/N: I love reviews :)
