Disclaimer: I don't own Thor and stuff.
He imagined he was floating away, like a balloon, far, far up into the clouds, where humanity was ants and skyscrapers mere specks. Flight to nowhere, backwards gravity—oh, how he wanted it. All the way to infinity and beyond. But no. He was merely a pagan god, alone and forgotten, slowly fading from humanity's eye, tortured by his ever panging phantom hand. He had no power anymore.
In bygone days, he used to be a great warrior—the god of hand to hand combat. He was the great Tyr! Fighting giants, demons. Now he was stuck, wallowing in hellish misery, with no way to get out of nothing.
He missed his old friends. Thor, Vidar, Baldr, Hodr… Hell, he missed conversation, period. If he could talk to someone, anyone….
What was the world now, he wondered, what is man? Is there peace, or never ending sorrow, like here, never ending isolation? Were the prophecies right? Was the world reborn?
A cold hand touched Tyr's stub. He jumped back to next Tuesday, not having felt a human touch for a thousand years.
"Who's there?", Tyr cried out to the nothing.
"Surely you recognize my hand," came the reply.
"Recognize…What?" Tyr raised an eyebrow.
"I know it's you, Tyr."
"Hello, erm, spectral being."
"Spectral? You think I'm a specter? We've known each other for a long time. Surly you remember. I mean, it's been a thousand years, but still…"
Tyr sighed. "Do I have to keep guessing, or are you going to tell me who you are?"
"Thor!" he thundered, shaking the nothingness.
Tyr laughed, relieved and glad to hear his old friend (it was far too dark to actually see him). "Always so loud, Thor. How did you know it was me?"
"Your stub."
"Have you found any of the others?"
"Nope." Thor said sadly. "I've been alone just as long as you. Just that I happened to bump into you, I guess."
"Yeah."
They sat in silence for a few moments. Then, Tyr decided to speak. "Thor, do you suppose we should find the others?"
There was silence. No response.
"Thor?" Tyr cried out, nervously.
A few moments passed. Still no response.
"Thor!"
Silence.
"Thor!" Tyr screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping his friend would reply. No response. He was alone again.
