"I want you to look to the future… not everything will be decided by this mission. The flowers won't stop growing, the sun won't stop setting, the stars won't stop shinning. I want us to be home and be happy and watch kohona prosper and watch you be appointed Hokage; I want there to be… to be peace… and… and love," she finished with a whisper so soft, that Naruto had to lean in close to her quivering body, almost brushing his ear against her soft lips.
He slowly raised his head, allowing her heart spoke words to seep into his mind. He looked into her eyes, the beautiful jade eyes that had witnessed so much pain, eyes that, at the moment, were glistening with held in tears. And then kissed her, a soft kiss like that of parting lovers. He broke away, studied her eyes that were now overflowing with tears, touched her soft, damp cheek with his calloused fingers…
Them he stood and began walking away. Away from his love, away from his friends, away from his village, away from his dream that Sakura had painted so vividly with her words; away from everything he cherished just to fulfill a promise…
… I will bring him back…
I just felt the urge to delve a little into just how far Naruto would go in order to keep his word. To him his word is his honor, I feel that even if he had everything he ever wished for, the girl he longs for, the title he fights for, the village he bleeds for... he would turn his back on all of it in order to keep his promises, no matter how selfish or impossible they might be. He would feel that he did not deserve the prize if he could not uphold his honor.
But this is what Naruto is and the reason we indulge ourselves in his journey...
