She thought it was perfect, that he was perfect. He said he was going to be there for her, to help her forget. She didn't know why he would change his mind, why he broke her heart…

It was sunny day, which made the scene look perfect. They were laying in the garden, his arm around her to keep her close and safe from what happened. Whenever he was around, she forgot. Even though what happened was horrendous, it had brought her closer to him. This was what happened every day. At first she kept telling him he didn't have to stay, but he did. Now she wanted him to stay more than ever. She was close to being her old self.

One day the situation changed: There was nolaying with his arm around her; No making her feel safe; No forgetting about what happened; No feeling close to him and no being close to her old self. He was acting strange. He was being distant with her not being the person she loved. He may have changed his mind. She hoped he hadn't. Tears poured from Catherine's eyes as she realised she couldn't lose Grissom.

Catherine spent a week trying to figure out what she could do; she could say something to Grissom; she could shake it off and let things play out or she could even run away. Although where would she go? All Catherine knew was that Grissom wasn't keeping her grounded anymore. He was acting like a stranger.

"Have you changed your mind?" Catherine asked simply. Grissom looked quite taken aback by her question.

"Answer me!" Catherine nearly shouted, tears threatening to fall. Grissom could hear sadness in her voice; He had to say something.

"I don't know," His voice was quiet and the lack of passion behind it gave her the answer she had dreaded.

"I'll take that as a yes," Catherine got up and started to walk to the door.

"Please, don't go, I'll try," Grissom got up and grabbed her arm gently, not trying to hurt her. She pulled her arm away and looked at him with a 'you know what happened' look. Grissom let her go and watched as she got in her car and drove into the distance.

Catherine just couldn't stay there anymore. She knew the man who still gave her nightmares was still out there. She didn't feel protected without James with her, but she couldn't be with him anymore.

The pain of losing Grissom still haunted her, but she knew she had to find the strength to leave. She had to put it behind her and move on. For her as well as her unborn child.
