Tragic Events Leave Bad Memories

Prologue

A screech of death wakened the silence of the Thunderclan camp as the badgers stormed their way in. They were firce, battle ready, and hungry for revenge. Dovewing, who had been guarding the camp entrance, cried out to her clanmates, urging them to fight. Her sister Ivypool was first out, and she crashed into a small, female badger. Brakenfur followed soon after, and joined the young cat as she fought with all her might.

Racing out of the apprentice's den, Cherrypaw and Molepaw immediately jumped into the thick of the battle. They fought side by side as they defended their home.

There's no way they will sort that one out on their own, thought Dovewing, and she ran towards the scene, neatly avoiding a blow from the attacking badger. It was a fit, male badger with full strength and determination. Although it sucked all the energy out of the poor she-cat, the apprentices and her managed to drive it out of the camp. She let out a screech of triumph and paused for a second before diving in again.

Meanwhile, Bumbleflight was ushering Mousefur and Purdy out of their den and up onto the Highledge.

"You don't have to fuss about old cats like us – get back and fight. We've been in the camp long enough to know the way," growled Mousfur, and she shook Bumbleflight off her and scrambled up the rocks. Purdy closely followed. The old tom shrugged and carried on climbing. The young warrior sighed and ran off to help Poppyfrost fight her vicious opponent.

More badgers came crashing into the camp. The fighting cats turned to look, and a look of pure horror flashed over their faces. This only lasted as the moonhigh patrol (Mousewhisker, Thornclaw, Icecloud and Cloudtail) came running in and began to help their struggling clanmates.

Dovewing POV

It seemed like the battle for the Thunderclan camp was endless. No cat thought they would ever experience something like this. Cats dying all the time, and there was no way of avoiding their fate. How many more Thunderclan lives would be lost before this tragic event finished? Was the fate of Thunderclan to die? Who was going to save them? Questions ran through my mind but I couldn't answer them.

Just to my left, I saw Sorreltail collapse and Leafpool rushing her as fast as she could to the medicine den. I want nothing to happen to her, I think and close my eyes and collapse in exhaustion. All hope is lost ...
