Hullo there; welcome to 'I Hate Candies'!
As some of you may or may not know, this fanfic was first created about two years ago and I would be lying if this story went on hiatus. For a very, very, very long time.
Two years to be exact.
The main reason I've gone back to this story after such a blank period of writing for me was the fact that I've recently re-watched the musical for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I suddenly remembered that story I had published some time ago. I had let it rust and it had been pushed to the back of my mind. But when it was active, people followed and commented on it, and that delighted me beyond words. Something about being told that my character was Dahl-esque and that she was a strange enough person to imagine being friends with Willy, made me feel like I couldn't, shouldn't give up on Louisa.
And so as I reviewed the few dusty chapters I left on my account, I was unable to hold back the cringy, awfulness that filled my body to the brim as I read the sentences that were incomplete, attempts at making the book different (in a good way), that made it worse (in a bad way), and paragraphs that weren't really paragraphs.
It truly is terrible, but the girl that I pictured in my mind, those crystal blue eyes and pitch black hair that came down to her back but always kept up to try and hide her fun persona, she just refused to stop talking. She so desperately refuses to back down that I have been forced to rewrite this thing all over again.
So what will probably end up happening is that definitely elements from the original book will appear in the new edition, and I will try my very best to keep the Dahl style writing going. (Boy, I need to read all my old kids books again… Research is key!) The main reason I discontinued the series before was because of several different reasons, some of them being;
1. Unable to think of where the story was going (plot wise)
2. The style of writing (it was extremely hard to maintain since it's not my natural form of writing)
3. And finally the amount of patience needed to finish the chapters on a regular basis.
Wonka too is an extremely difficult character to write but I love him so much as many of you Wonka fans. But to picture him as the man made from either one of the movies is not what I want you to see by any means, and instead I want to break him down to the man I see in my mind, and forget any visuals or aesthetics that the films have given you and have it replaced with a character who is a bit wonky in mind and soul. Please don't take offense if you're a film fan, it doesn't mean I dislike them, I do, but the way I picture him is just different and I want to have you guys see him the same way. That was one of the problems that I had was that I was basing the book more on the recent film and now I realize, that it is the last thing I want.
Either way, as I write this story bit by bit, I hope you will stay with me in this journey that will, with a bit of work, hopefully finish itself.
With love,
Your slightly nuts author
