Devil's P.O.V

I was sitting on the curb, tapping my foot and biting my lip impatiently. Angel was conning a vendor into giving her food. Adults always fell for it. The innocent act, I mean. It's understandable of course.

Angel looks the part. With her straight, long, blonde hair. Her wide, blue eyes reflected how she was sweet, kind, and always saw the good in people. She had a pale complexion and was wearing a ragged, light blue frock. On top of her head she wore a gray cabby hat.

Me? I'm a different story. I have long, curly, brown hair that's is always pulled out of my face somehow. My green eyes and arched eyebrows gave away my mischievous and troublesome nature. I have a tan and freckles sprinkled across my face. I wore a white blouse, black trousers, brown boots, and green suspenders. On top of my head a matching gray cabby hat.

The funny part? We're twins.

"Devil!"

I looked up to see Angel with two apples in her hands a a slight guilty grin. She tossed me one and took a seat next to me.

"Good job, Ang!" I said rubbing the apple on my shirt.

"Thanks, Dev," she replied. "Dis is gettin' too easy. I'se hate scammin' guys on da street!"

"Angel. We'se live on da streets. How else are we'se supposed ta survive? Dis is New York City! You'se can only think about yerself."

I know that was a little harsh, but she needed to hear it. Lately, she's been feeling even more guilty about our, um, 'profession'.

She sighed and picked at the edge of her dress. "I'se know, Devil. But I'se wish we'se had money ta pay people back."

"Ya," I agreed dully, looking at my feet. "Me too."

"Really?" I looked up and rolled my eyes.

"Just because me name is Devil, don't mean I ain't got feelin's."

She snorted, "Ya, it kinda does!"

I shoved her playfully and we laughed. Suddenly a shrill whistle cut through the air. Angel and I stood, looking casual but ready to bolt if the situation called for it.

A boy of about 17 was running towards us. He wore a black cowboy hat and a red bandana around his neck. He was fast, but not fast enough. The bulls were catching up. I jerked my head towards Angel, signaling for her to get in the alley behind us. As he ran past I grabbed his wrist and pulled him into the alley with me. I clapped my hand over his mouth to keep him quiet. Once the bulls ran by, I released him.

He was staring at me, his warm brown eyes calculating.
