AN: Just a thought I had when I was listening to Justin Bieber's "Baby". Pretty pointless, I know, but it was itching to be written down, then itching to uploaded to hear. Enjoy!
"You know you love me." the girl muttered just above her breathe.
The boy pretended not to hear her, and continued to stare at his hands. They were sitting beside each other on the grass, looking at the stars. The night was humid, with a gentle breeze that made the grass rustle just a tiny bit.
"I know you care." she said a little louder this time. He still ignored her.
"Just shout whenever, and I'll be there." the girl assured him, nodding to herself. This time, the boy silently slid a few inches away from her. He felt as if he was hearing to much, he hated that he hurt her like that.
"You want my love." the girl said, finally peering at him through the curtain of her long brunette hair. When he felt her gaze he froze, hoping that she wouldn't notice he was a few inches farther away from her.
"You want my heart..." She said at length. He silently nodded. She was right. He did want her heart. He wanted it to be his and only his.
"And we will never, ever, ever be apart." the girl said, her voice a smooth monotone. He finally turned and looked at her. She turned and stared back at him.
"Are we an item?" she asked. It was a simple question. He opened his mouth to answer, but before he could, she interrupted him saying, "Boy, quit playing." He let her finish and started to twiddle his thumbs on his lap.
"We're just friends? What are you saying?" it was barely a question this time. She knew he couldn't love her, it was forbidden.
"Said there's another, and looked right in my eyes." she said, looking into his eyes, mimicking her words. She got up and started to walk away. Before she was too far away, she looked over her shoulder and said "My first love broke my heart for the first time."
She strode through the grass forgetting all about the boy and the fact that he couldn't love her and never would. She started to disappear from sight; the boy had made his decision. He silently got up and jogged after her. When he was close enough, he clamped a hand on her shoulder and spun her around so that she was facing him. Before both of them could think about it, he kissed her. Her lips were warm on his, he never knew it, but this was the moment he had been waiting for, for so long.
"I love you." he whispered. For the first time in what seemed like ages, she smiled. It was his most favorite site in the world. Her smile. He looked up into her eyes and said with an assuring tone:
"I do love you.
I do care.
I will shout whenever.
And I know you'll be there
I do want your love.
I do want your heart.
And we will never, ever, ever, be apart.
We are an item.
I'm not playing.
We're more than friends.
That's what I'm saying.
There's no other.
I'm looking right in your eyes.
I'm sorry I broke your heart for the first time."
He smiled back at her.
"I love you, Katara." he had said those forbidden words. They tasted good coming out of his mouth.
She smiled. "I love you too, Aang. I always have, even if I didn't know it either."
And there they were. Just staring at each other, smiling in the silver moonlight, it was the first time both of them felt complete. He brushed his fingers in her hair and said,
"I promise. I'm not playing."
