A/n: Wow... I feel like I've been gone forever. You can read about why I've been gone on my profile. (Meaning I am too lazy to repeat myself here... I know I am a horrible person.) But yes! Proof that I live! :D Now please enjoy this really short little oneshot that I have been thinking about for a while.

He was going to die tonight.

In the back of his mind Dean Winchester knew that these were his final hours. All of the preparations they were making to try and kill Lilith and thus save him from the deal he had made were in vain and he knew it.

Maybe he should've been thinking about his life. What he had accomplished what he hadn't but wished he had. He didn't see the point, though. His accomplishments wouldn't mean a damn thing where he was going and it didn't do any good wishing that he had done things differently. He probably wouldn't change a thing if he was given the chance.

Instead of any thoughts about his life or what was to come there was just a song looping around in his head. Surprisingly it was a fairly recent tune that had gotten stuck into his head when he heard it playing in a music store.

Well really it was just the chorus that was looping in his head, over and over again.

Father if I die ahead of you one thing that I hope you do always know you were a fine example. Mama if I have to fly long before it comes your time always know that I always loved you and if I go before you both it was just my time to go. I'll visit you in lightning bolts until we meet again.

Of course there were a few differences between the lyrics and his life. Instead of his father he was thinking about Bobby. Instead of his mother he was thinking about his brother. And he sincerely doubted that he was going to be doing any flying where he was going. He also never expected to meet his brother or Bobby there.

They were good people and if there was a Heaven he was certain that was where they would end up.

He had always expected to die before Sam because if anything was gunning for his brother was going to have to kill him first. He even thought Bobby would outlive him because Bobby didn't go out on hunts anymore. Less danger when you're just supplying info for everyone who calls. The man chuckled quietly, lifting his hand and rubbing his jaw, one of his hands gripping the steering wheel of his precious Impala.

The laughter soon died, though and he just stared out the window, his chin resting on his knuckles and elbow against the door. This was probably going to be the last time that he would just sit in his Impala and think. It wasn't often that he sat down and thought seriously. It usually depressed him. However, on the occasion that he did want to do some serious thinking this is where he did it.

He hummed as the lyrics made another pass through his head and moved, getting onto his knees and leaning over the seat so that he could fish around in his brother's bag. He pulled out a pen and two pieces of paper. Next he leaned over and got the first and only CD he had ever bought out of his glove box and used its case to bare down on as he wrote two letters, one to Sammy and one to Bobby. He folded the letters then put them and the CD on the seat for his brother to find after he died.

He was going to, after all. A little smile tugged at his lips and the lyrics made another loop in his head.

Father if I die ahead of you one thing that I hope you do always know you were a fine example. Mama if I have to fly long before it comes your time always know that I always loved you and if I go before you both it was just my time to go. I'll visit you in lightning bolts until we meet again.
