Mother's Been Long Gone
by: Lost-Remembrance (Red Tail)
"Where's Mother?"
The man stiffened at the words that reached his ears. Slowly, he turned as if he was barely containing his rage. His eyes glinted in the darkness with untold fury.
Taking a step back at the feral look, skin crawled and limbs shook at the look.
The man clenched his hands. His body shook and muscles looked taunt. His gaze held and she, the small child shaking, was rooted to her spot in the small apartment.
Why did that question make him so mad?
All she wanted to know was were Mother went—she was always there to hold her and to offer smiles as bright as sunshine to her. After school, she was always sitting there with tissues around her, stained with black stuff that was running down her cheeks, but she always looked up with a smile.
So, why was he so mad?
How could some one so nice, so happy, make Father mad? He was nice to her—right? He did talk to her; if he was mad he wouldn't. Right? …Right.
Or… wrong?
"Go to your room." She looked at her Father with wide eyes—not understanding his reasoning for punishing her. But, Father knew best. "Now."
Biting her lower lip, she shakingly nodded her head and turned around, walking quickly, but as silently as she could to her room. She softly closed the door.
She heard glass breaking.
Closing her eyes to block out the sound, she wondered what was breaking—her heart or the glass that was broken. She slid her back down on the wood and leaned against the door. She pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her shaking body tightly.
No one could hurt her, now.
But, she still couldn't help but wonder where her ray of light had gone. She watched the setting sun disappear behind the buildings of the bustling city and waited for her Father to say it was alright to come out now. Her stomach grumbled, asking loudly for food.
It was past dinner time. Still, her Father didn't say that she was allowed to come out of her confounds.
Her eyes drifted shut as she allowed her body to be dragged from the floor with weary legs over to her bed. Collapsing with a sudden exhaustion, she let her mind wander to the spaces of sleep. Soon, she was off into the blissful dreams where everything was perfect.
Yet, even as sleep claimed her, she still wondered one thing—where had Mother gone?
Owari?
