Same Fingers and All
-Drabble-

She had the tiniest fingers he'd ever seen in his life and he was utterly enthralled with them. How they moved, tightening on his shirt or just waving around in the air. She stuck them in her mouth sometimes and just left them there. If it was anybody else, he woulda thought it was gross when she pulled 'em out and without any sort of shame furled them back in his shirt. But this was her so it was okay.

"Don?"

He looked up, half-smiling at the sleepy image his wife made lying in the bed across from him. "Yeah?" he said, voice a little lower now as the tiny bundle against his chest slept peacefully, fingers still wrapped up in his open shirt. She let out a tiny sigh, wiggled a little and kept on sleeping, her cheek pressed against where his heart beat steadily, proudly.

"How is she?" Lindsay murmured, eyes still drooping.

"She's good... She's... She's amazing, Linds."

She grinned. "Course she is. She's ours."

Flack nodded, reaching out a hand and sliding it across the bed, taking Lindsay's in his. His thumb traced her fingers and he shook his head slightly as he sat pondering something.

"What?" she wondered, lifting a brow.

"Nothin'. I just... I noticed you two have the same hands."

"You can't tell that yet, Don," she said, affectionately amused.

"Trust me. You do." He nodded, looking down lovingly at his little girl, one of her hands spread across his chest, tiny fingers reaching out for him. "Same fingers."

Lindsay squeezed his hand. "Wha' time 'sit?" she mumbled.

"Either really late or really, really early." He looked over at her. "Get some sleep, you deserve it."

She smiled at him. "I'm not going to argue there." She rolled onto her side and hugged the pillow to her face, relaxing. "I keep dreaming this isn't real..." she admitted softly. "That I'm going to wake up and she'll never have been born and you'll..." She looked up at him.

"It's real." He nodded firmly. "Trust me. It's very real."

Her lips quirked. "Good."

He brushed her bangs from her forehead. "Now get some sleep. When she wakes up, we'll remember where she got her impatience from."

Chuckling lightly, Lindsay closed her eyes and sighed contently.

Watching her for a moment, Don reassured himself that it really was real. He had his family, same fingers and all, and they weren't going anywhere.
