I get off the rusted piece of metal, that some call the bus. I don't understand why I'm not aloud to get my licence. I'm eighteen for crying out loud; I'm not just a "little girl" anymore. Ever since my dad went missing Mum has changed, my dad disappeared on my sixth birthday, never to be seen again. Tomorrow is my eighteenth birthday so Mum may be more emotional than normal.
"MUM!" I bellow though the house. I walk though the hallway to find Ethan sitting contently eating a muesli bar,
"Hey Buddy, have you seen mum?"
"Hey Ivy, she should be outside," he replied. He is rather intelligent for a five year old.
"Thanks Ethan." I reply, "I'm going to go find Mum."
I walk through the kitchen and out the back door, towards the garden. I hear the screen door slam shut, I continue walking, ignoring what mum would say if she heard that. I then see Mum hunched over the garden bed, pulling out weeds and dividing out the vegetables.
"Hey Mum," I call. She spins around startled
"Oh, Hey Ivory. I didn't expect you to be home by at least four-thirty," she says in confusion.
"Yeah Mum… Its probably about four forty-five,"
"Oh, sorry darling," she reply's sympathetically.
"We had better head back, Ethan will be starting to worry." I say, worry tinting my voice.
"Oh yes, Ethan," she says, she sounds like she has been disconnected from earth.
We make the silent walk back to the house and I open the door, to find the chair Ethan was sitting in empty.
"Ivory, where is Ethan?" she reply's in a panic, of course she cares if Ethan's ok but not me!
"He was probably just in his bedroom Mum, calm down" I say, not wanting Mum to have a panic attack.
"Ok," she sighs in defeat. I race up the rickety stairs, and open Ethan's door, to find him not there, that weird. I race to the living room to find him not their either, I check every room to find him not there. In a panic I check everything again.
"Um, Mum I can't find Ethan anywhere," I say panicking
"YOU LOST YOUR BROTHER!" she yelled
"No I didn't,"
"Yes you did you liar,"
I then see Ethan's head poke around the corner,
"Why are you yelling?"
"I'm going for a walk. Don't expect me back til late tonight!" I yell
I grab my iPod, earphones, a water bottle, a jacket and my phone and throw them into a backpack viciously and storm down the stairs. Slamming the door behind me, and hearing Mum yell at me I keep going. I jogged down the driveway and headed towards the forest. I set off at a fast pace, pulling my IPod and earphones out as I go. The trees were towering over me by the time I had come out of my little "world". I saw the usual hidden path I normally take and
