Note: I do not own House, M.D. or anything associated with it.
Wish I did, but I don't.
Nor do I
own anything associated with the song used in the story. Though, I
did get the idea from another H/W fic involving someone's iPod on
shuffle. I can't find it now, but I did want to credit the author
for giving me inspiration. :D
Song: Olivia Newton-John –
Hopelessly Devoted to You
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wilson sat alone in his office. Outside the window, rain was pouring, and inside his lights were turned down, favoring the darkness and silence. His head hung in his hands in a similar position to that of everyone that House had ever been close to. In fact, he realized that the way he was sitting mirrored Stacy and Cameron perfectly and practically screamed 'House broke my heart'.
I'm not the first to know there's just no getting over you. I'm hopelessly devoted to you...
Of course, it was the moment when James finally let go and put his head down on the desk, that House walked in. The elder doctor put his hand on his friend's shoulder - the first contact they had had since Wilson came home to witness the result of House's rendez-vous with a razor - and sighed. "I'm sorry. I'd hurt everyone else including myself, but you were the last person I intended to hurt with this."
My head is screaming 'Fool, forget him,' and my heart is saying 'Don't let go, hold on to the end.'...
James didn't look up.
"Why should it matter? You always apologize, then you go back and do something equally as stupid, and equally as selfish. 'Let me cut myself, maybe Jimmy will come to save the day.' I'm fucking tired of saving you from yourself every time."
House hobbled around to Wilson, turned him in his chair to look him in the eyes.
"I need you. Perhaps more than you need me. I fucked up, James." All House met was a blank and cold stare. He raised his voice, "What more do you want me to say?" House sighed, knowing the answer to his question immediately. "I'm getting help. For real this time. The only reason is because I'm sorry, and I want you to forgive me."
James finally looked up at the man in front of him. House looked like there was something more to say, something Jimmy could only guess. There was only one phrase that caused House any difficulty to say.
"More specifically.. I love you."
That's what I intend to do. Hopelessly devoted to you...
"I love you, you bastard, and I'm not entirely sure why." Wilson half-sighed and half-chuckled. "Love is not conditional, we've been through this before. Of course I will forgive you. I may be pissed for a while..." He closed his eyes, nodding. "Yes, House, I'll forgive you."
