Ever since they were 3 years old Sharpay Evans and Gabriella Montez were the best of friends. They grew up together in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Their fathers were best friends in college but then separated their ways after they graduated. But on April 8, 1995, William Montez had a heart attack, and died at the age of 28 years old. Robert Evans heard about the devastating news, and moved his family back to New York City. Ever since, Gabriella and Sharpay have been tight on the hip. Celebrating birthdays together since they were only 2 weeks apart, Sharpay being the oldest, attending charity events, going on double dates with Gabriella's steady boyfriend of 4 years, Troy Bolton and whoever Sharpay's victim was that week. They are known as New York's party girls. Both of their families have a huge amount of money in their bank accounts. Both girls attend Constance-Billard School for Girls a small elite private school and are in their junior year.
