The Princess and the Prince

Chapter One

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. She had auburn hair, blue eyes and nicely tanned skin. Her name was Kiandra, which means understanding and knowledge.

She lived in a wonderful castle: gray stone, high turrets, on a green hillside with the ocean in the distance. Once in a while you could smell the salt from the ocean on the warm summer breeze. The sky around the castle was a beautiful blue and they reached on forever and ever. The castle belonged on a postcard.

Kiandra's crush was the most handsome prince in all the land. He had slightly curly sandy-brown hair, mesmerizing blue-green eyes that reminded Kiandra of the ocean. He was nicely tanned, and slightly muscular, not bulging, but noticeable. His name was Trevon, which is short for Trevelyan.

Kiandra and Trevon have liked each other for years now, but neither one has been brave enough to admit anything, yet. They have been scared to say anything because their parents loathe each other, since the country was created. Kiandra and Trevon's great-great grandparents started a war that lasted for years, over ruling the country. They finally came to a conclusion of every ten years they would alternate which family would rule the country.

Because of this dispute, Trevon and Kiandra were terrified of confessing their feelings for each other. The only person Kiandra told was Cristelle. Cristelle is a peasant, so Kiandra's parents don't approve of the friendship but she doesn't care. The only person Trevon told was Kenneth, who is also a peasant, Trevon's parents don't approve either. They both swore to secrecy. The odd thing is that Cristelle and Kenneth are dating, so Trevon and Kiandra have a connection but don't know it.

If either Cristelle or Kenneth told anyone and they found out they would be in big trouble.

One day at the market Kiandra and Trevon ran into each other, literally ran into each other. They were both on the way home for supper. Once they realized whom it was they ran into, they apologized profusely.

"What are you doing Saturday?" Trevon blurted before he realized what he was saying.

"What?" Kiandra asked confused, partly because she couldn't hear him because it was very loud in the market, but mostly because just moments before she was imagining him asking her out.

"Never mind…I mean, what are you doing Saturday?" Trevon answered nervously.

"Um…nothing, probably sitting in my room doing nothing, why?" Kiandra asked curiously.

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to do something…with me." Trevon replied anxious to hear her answer.

"What about our family history?" Kiandra asked, "You know about hating each other?"

"Our parents don't have to know," Trevon answered with a sly grin on his face.

Kiandra noticed the grin and started blushing. Trevon saw her blushing and inwardly started cheering.

"So it's a date then?" Kiandra asked.

"You could call it that," Trevon answered.

Kiandra mentioned that she had to get home for dinner and if she was late her parent would send out a search party after her. Trevon said his parents would do the same thing. They said goodbye then went their separate ways.

When Kiandra got home she was almost late for supper; her parents were furious because she was almost late. Kiandra profusely apologized.

"What took you so long?" the king bellowed.

"I ran into a peasant in the market," Kiandra answered hoping her father wouldn't see through her lie and ask questions.

"Okay, fine, but next time try not to be late."

Kiandra was relived that her father couldn't see through her lie.

"Next time don't lie to me, I won't ask questions this time, but next time either tell the truth or come up with a better lie," Kiandra's father said.

'Dang it,' Kiandra thought.
