"Warren!" I called, hurrying up the front steps of Sky High. Warren looked up at me, pushing his long, black hair out of his face. He smiled at, me hen looked back to the book he was reading. I studied his slender, yet muscular frame as I walked toward him. I stopped next to him and leaned against the wall of the school. "Good morning," I said as I grabbed his hand and stepped closer to him. He leaned over and kissed me lightly on the lips.

"Ready for school to start?" he asked, leaning back against the wall. I shook my head and sighed. "Don't worry, you're not the only one who could use a couple more weeks of summer," he said, reading my mind. "Oh, well, at least now I get to spend all day every day with you," he said, giving my hand a gentle squeeze.

"Right," I agreed, grinning. "That's the best part of school." I kissed him on the cheek and ran my free hand through his hair. Then I leaned back against him, content. A quick movement caught my eye and I looked down at the steps. "Oh, look, new freshmen." I pointed to the group of terrified students being rounded up by Speed at the base of the steps. Warren laughed as we watched Lash join his best friend in terrorizing the freshmen.

"Hey, I say we go, uh, welcome the freshmen in our own way," Warren said, his face breaking into a devilish grin.

I leaned in closer to him and whispered in his ear, "As sexy as you look when you're plotting, I don't want you to be mean tot he freshmen." His grin faded a little so I added, "Yet. Let them get settled in for a couple of days. Then they're all yours."

He kissed me again before turning and pulling me into the school. "And that's why I love you," he said to me as we walked through the halls. "You let me get away with anything." The bell rang and I turned, preparing to head to class, but Warren stopped me. "Wait, I've got an idea." He whispered his plan to me and grinned impishly.

"Brilliant!" UI exclaimed, pulling completely away from him. "Let me go find Nika. I have a feeling she'll want to go with us. Besides, we'll probably need her, uh, special skills. I'll be right back. Wait here!" I called as I took off down the hallway, leaving Warren to stare after me.

A few minutes later Nika and I met up with Warren at his locker. We took off down the hallway toward the gym. Warren and I walked quickly, our hands clasped together. Nika followed a few feet behind, completely ignoring us. At the door to the gym we stopped to let Nika use her "special talents" to conceal us. We hurried in and sat on the bleachers, staring down at he freshmen intently.

As Principal Powers flew out of the gym, Coach Boomer appeared on a platform in the center of the floor. "Ooh, here's the fun part," I said, leaning forward to watch even more closely. One by one the freshmen stepped up onto the platform and demonstrated their powers for the class.

"Oh, man, could the sidekicks get any worse?" Nika asked as we watched a kid melt. Warren laughed but I just ignored them, concentrating on all of the new powers entering the school.

"Hey, do you guys remember our power placement?" Nika asked, finally getting my attention.

I turned to face her, grinning. "How could I forget? That was my finest hour" I gloated.

They both rolled their eyes at me and Warren muttered, "That's my girlfriend. The show-off." I shoved him playfully, my smile growing wider.

I couldn't argue with him; it was definitely true. So instead I retaliated with, "Hey, if you got it, flaunt it, right?" That was one of my favorite sayings. I turned my attention back to the freshmen, but I couldn't concentrate on them. Instead, my mind drifted back to my first day as a freshman at Sky High.
