Trust

Disclaimer: I am currently writing fanfiction, which implies that I don't have the power/money/authority to write this for the show, thus The Librarians is not mine.

"I told you, I like you. I just don't trust you."

The instant the words are out of his mouth and Cassie gives him a sad little smile, Jake barely reins in the urge to hug her and blurt out the full explanation.

It's not Cassie he doesn't trust, it's himself.

He's always understood exactly why Cassie had opened the door for the Serpent Brotherhood and he doesn't blame her in the slightest. And to be perfectly truthful, she regained his trust the instant she'd given up her chance to heal Flynn.

Jake knows himself well enough to know that if he lets Cassie into his heart (well, more then he already has) and if he was faced with such a predicament, he'd pick Cassie in an instant.

But he also knows Cassie, and Cassie wouldn't ever be able to live with herself if someone else died so that she could live. She'd make herself miserable with the survivor's guilt and Jake would have to live with the knowledge that it was his fault that she was miserable.

Jake was perfectly happy being lonely if it meant Cassie wasn't miserable because of his actions, and since Cassie wasn't pushing him about his walls because she thought he didn't trust her, that instance wouldn't come to pass.

Or so he hoped because he had no faith in himself.

So this was originally going to be a one-shot but then it turned into a drabble and I decided to roll with it. Thanks so much for the read, review, follow or favourite if you did any of the above!
