Warning: This Fic contains (Slight) spoilers for future episodes. A scene in the trailer for the rest of season three shows Azula shattering a mirror with her hairbrush. (PM me for the link.)
Slight AU. Just how I imagined it.
A/N:I fail at writing and haven't even edited this. I was just inspired because Azula is my favourite character. Tried to keep IC. Constructive criticism and all reviews are appreciated.
"Mother looking at me, tell me what do you see? Yes, I've lost my mind."
T.a.T.U "All the things she said"
The mind is such a brittle thing; almost laughable at how easy it is to shatter. In her case it was a mirror that removed the method from the madness.
She was brushing her hair in a mirror. It kept falling out of place, more than one strand. This was unacceptable. Perfection could not look like a slob. She would not stand for it. She listened. Nothing, none of Zuzu and Mai's bickering, nor Ty Lee's pleas for her attention. The silence along with the gentle ministrations of her hairbrush soothed the weary Princess. Her naturally gentle features fixed themselves into a smile. Yes, alone she could remove the severe mask, if only for a moment. Narcissism led her to open her eyes. The smile fell. A snarl had taken its place.
"You." Was all she could utter in her loathing. The figure in the mirror blinked back at her.
Something between a feral scream and a keen of agony were released from her lips as she threw the hairbrush at her reflection. The figure from her past shattered into pieces on the ground. Azula whirled around. Expecting to face the one who provoked such rage.
Nothing. The room was empty. A light knocking on the door startled her.
Ty Lee's terrified tones seeped in through the wood.
"Azula, are you okay? I-I heard something break?"
"…"
"You aren't hurt are you?"
Azula didn't move. Her eyes fell to the reflective glass. A thousand tiny Ursas stared back.
"Stop haunting me." She whispered in a deathly croak.
A more urgent pounding on the door interrupted her.
"AZULA?!" Ty Lee sounded hysterical.
It crossed the princess's mind to lead Ty Lee to believe that something had happened to her. Knowing Ty Lee however, she'd call the guards and have the door broken down.
"Ty Lee." She replied opening the door. The other girl flinched. She must have been quite a sight. Eyes wild, sleepless, hair tangled, mouth twisted into a half-crazed grin.
"J-just wanted to know if you were okay."
"I'm fine."
The door closed and Ty Lee knew something was wrong. Something had to be very wrong because Azula always lies.
Back inside her dressing room Azula was destroying every mirror she owned.
She lay panting after doing so. Her pants broke into an insane laugh.
"Yours. All yours. This face is yours. I may have painted it, tainted it even. But it's still yours. So Mother, how does it feel to watch yourself become the monster?"
Why must the angst inspire me so? R&R.
