I knew my time on earth was nearly up, the moment I saw silver parachutes descending from the sky. As I took what was almost certainly my last look at the world, my eyes met with someone elses. But the eyes were so familiar, exactly like the grey seam eyes from my district. Then it dawned on me, when I looked closer at her face. They were the eyes of my sister. But it was too late. There was nothing she could do to save me. Only watch on, as I met the end so very like my fathers. The parachutes went off, and I was thrown to the ground, unconscious.
After that, there was nothing except a blinding light, for what seemed like an eternity. But slowly, I came to realise that it wasn't the light of death. And I could hear…footsteps, and surely you can't hear footsteps when you're dead. So I quickly opened my eyes, and saw an oddly familiar room, though I'm sure I've never been there before.
