Whispers in the Night

"Edward?" Whispered Bella's tired voice.

Edward smiled into Bella's cascade of hair, his senses alert and tingling with Bella's voice ringing in his ears.

"Yes?" He murmured.

"Can you sing to me? Please? Just one more time." Bella asked, her eyelids shut, her chest rising as she took a deep breath in.

Edward chuckled softly. How could he say no to that?

He begun Bella's lullaby quietly. He sang it softly and barely a whisper into her ear. She exhaled slowly, her breath blowing loose strands away from her face.

Bella smiled to herself as she drifted into a deep sleep.

Edward sung the lullaby carefully until the very last note, fully aware that Bella was already fast asleep. He watched her rhythmical chest rise and fall as he smiled to himself.

If only Bella could see herself the way he saw her. Then she would understand why it took him so long to leaver her side to hunt.

How could he leave this beautiful Grecian Goddess? A sliver of moonlight was shining through Bella's curtains, illuminating her enchanting features. Edward breathed out at the sight.

He checked Bella's digital clock, seeing it was just past midnight and knowing he would have to leave fairly soon.

"Oh Bella, I know you understand a small part of how hard it is for me to resist you. Your scent is unbelievably delectable. However, it is you, you that is so hard to resist." Edward breathed his voice barely audible.

"Your clumsiness that brings hospital bills to almost everyone, you're intelligence, your personality, your face . . . and your hair." Edward murmured, breathing in the smell of her delicious shampoo. "You have no idea how hard it is for me to leave you, whether you realize it or not, or even if it is extremely important that I do. It just… hurts so badly. I cannot bear to leave your side. I love you, Bella. I truly love you. I am so glad I lived for the ninety years, just to have met you. I love you, Bella, and there is not a thing or person in this world who could stop me, or even come close to know how I feel about you."

Edward slowly sat up, careful not to wake Bella. He moved slowly, he was very reluctant to leave her side.

As Edward crossed the room to Bella's window, Bella spoke gently.

"Thank you, Edward. I love you too. Truly I do." Bella spoke calmly.

Edward froze. He had been so sure she was fast asleep, so sure she had not heard a word he breathed.

"And when you're done, perhaps we can go and get a banana smoothie? I heard Jess talked about some place… Disneyland? Of course I will!" Bella laughed.

Edward shook his head, chuckling to himself. Of course, sleep talking, how could he have forgotten?

As Edward climbed out the window and took off at an alarming speed, he was unaware of Bella's eyes flutter open, her lips bend into a small smile.

"You also have no idea how hard it is for me, then. I cannot think of a day without your love. Take care, Edward, for I truly love you too." Bella spoke, rolling over and lapsing back into a deep sleep.
