A/N: I started watching "Higher Ground" re-runs on the dish channel WAM because A.J. Cook is my favorite actress. That really is a great show, too bad they took it off the air. Anyway, I wrote this poem today in Latin (as in, the class not the language) because I've only seen two episodes of the show so far so I can't really write a long fic yet. I'm not really good at poetry and I didn't mean for it to really "rhyme" but it kinda flowed that way. Set after the episode "Babe in Arms" when Shelby is sitting on the bear statue.

Little Girl Lost

Alone in body and mind

Secrets locked away inside

Hard, self-reliant and curt

Building strong walls to keep out the hurt

Relationships unimportant, fodder for pain

Remembrance of what can be taken away

Tough on the outside, uncaring to all

Protecting herself from taking a fall

Beaten and torn, no safety in sight

No reverie to break through the darkest nights

Forced aside, a lost girl that the world forgot

No concern from family, only false love that must be bought

No mother's touch or words of love

Forced into the shadows, living in the dark

A world of hurt and a broken heart

Alone in the cold, dark and pain

A little girl lost
