"Benny's Bear"
He certainly wasn't what one would call attractive in the traditional sense. Or in any sense, really. Perhaps if he would smile more, but without straining himself. That classic Calvary haircut, high and tight, made his head look a little squarer than it really was. The hulking armor made him larger too, but it fit snuggly across his body.
Benny was as strong and steady as a wall, and just as pretty as one.
He's perfect, Camilla thought.
He pulled the tresses of her hair together, strands snagging on his calloused hands. She didn't mind. Benny held each lock like it were made of gold. Camilla's head rested in his lap. She rubbed her face against him and sighed.
"What's wrong, my lady? Did I pull your hair too hard?"
"No darling, just thinking."
"Oh," Benny paused, a bead of sweat forming on his forehead. "Umm, uh, we agreed that I'm not wrestling any more bears, right?"
"Benny, the only bear left to deal with is me, and that's one match I don't think you could win."
"I'm tougher than I look," he said. He smirks as he said it, and Camilla couldn't help but laugh.
"Darling, not a soul would believe me if I told them you had a knack for sarcasm."
"Not a soul would believe that a Nohrian queen agreed to be my wife, and look how that happened." Benny leaned down and kissed her forehead, lingering a couple seconds too long. He breathed in the scent of her skin, forever like flowers and the leather of her armor.
The life in her eyes left for a second-he knew he screwed up. He said that word she never wanted to hear: Queen.
"I'm sor-"
"Would you love me if I wasn't a Queen or even a Princess?"
"Of course-"
"I've decided that I'm abdicating. No one could compare to the leadership that Xander would have reigned with. Except for maybe Leo."
"I think you have it backwards, Camilla. I don't think they could compare to you."
"Your love of me blinds you, darling. Not that I'm complaining. But see, they love the Nohrian people, I only love certain Nohrian persons. I only want to live a quiet life, away from the insanity that is this castle. You, and my remaining siblings are all that's left for me here."
Leo's coronation was in tree days time. The castle was abuzz with happy chatter and everyone stayed busy. While Camilla loved a party, she could not wait for this one to end. Leo would finally to get to be the star that he was and she couldn't wait to be farther away from the limelight. Benny took the crown off of her head and kneaded her scalp. She felt the weight of nation slip off of her.
"I don't want a wedding," she said.
"I know."
"I want a cottage with just enough space. I want it to be cozy, like every angle hugs me like you do."
"I could probably build one but that's really small, and I guess I could make a separate guest house for Marzia too..."
"Oh Benny," she said, laughing.
"That was sarcasm wasn't it? Got it. Who knows, maybe we can have a bear for a neighbor!"
"Darling, did you make a joke?"
"Tried to..."
