Everybody Lies
It was the motto he lived by: everybody lies. Ironically, however, he considered himself the biggest liar of them all. He had been lying to himself as well as the rest of the world for nearly ten years. He had loved Lisa Cuddy for that long at least, perhaps longer if he really wanted to think about it. They had met early on and he had found her attractive. Who wouldn't have with a body like hers and a face to match? She had been the star of many Hopkin's student's fantasies and he was no exception.
He had graduated, however. Had gotten a job and found Stacy. Lisa Cuddy was out of the question because she was an administrator. So House settled for a life with the lawyer that seemed to have enough enthusiasm and willingness to experiment to make up for his lack of real connection with her. He grew to like her even, but the reason that he couldn't deal with Stacy leaving him, besides the obvious fact that she had crippled him and left him alone, was his love for Lisa.
They were both single and the pain that was caused by his infarction would surely turn her off, he reasoned. Any hope that he had of shaking up her world and making her love him flew out the window, in his eyes, when he lost full mobility. They still worked together and House mourned the loss of the woman that would have slept with him, turning herself nearly inside out to please him. He started seeing hookers. Cuddy grew colder.
They continued to work together, however; Wilson always pushing House to express his deepest feelings to Cuddy. House knew that she would regrettably turn him away in favor of her career so he lied to his friend. He made it clear to anyone within earshot that he didn't like Lisa Cuddy, let alone love her. He tried to point this out especially to her. By lying he was pushing her further and further away.
When she wanted a baby to love, he lied some more. He told her that she would be a terrible mother. He told himself that he didn't want to give her a baby. The lies continued to pile up.
He lied to himself until he was nearly broken. She tried to help him, but he pushed her even further away…Greg House is the prime example of his own motto, yet he refused to acknowledge it or change it to get the love he so desperately wanted. Everybody lies…the only changing variable is about what…he didn't even know why he continued to lie.
