Replacement

"Sasuke," Sakura murmured, snuggling against the pale man lying beside her. He pulled the blanket higher over the curve of her bare shoulder, sighing as she curled into him, wrapped in his arms.

Dark eyes studied her carefully. She was always beautiful, but she was stunning when she slept. All of the stress and sadness left her face. Curled up in white sheets, pink hair framing her peaceful face, she looked like an angel. His perfect, little angel.

She murmured his name again, talking in her sleep, and Sai frowned. No, Sakura wasn't Sai's angel. She was Sasuke's. The bastard had left years ago, but it was still his name that she murmured in her sleep, and called out while they made love.

Sai had always known that he was just Sasuke's replacement. It hadn't really bothered him when he first joined the team. He hadn't even cared when she reached out to him in the night after a particularly brutal mission. She had needed the comfort, and he was curious. She was using him, and he was using her.

They had continued like that for the next few months, and gradually, Sai was figuring out his emotions. It was too bad for him that the first one he was able to identify was jealousy.

Sai pulled his sleeping teammate closer to him, cringing when she said the wrong name once again. Was that really all he was, Sasuke's replacement?

"It's Sai," he whispered into her bubblegum hair. One day, he was going to make her see that.

AN: This little drabble thing came about when I was thinking about the fact that Sai and Sasuke look sort of similar, and how he was basically a replacement until they could find Sasuke again. Apparently I felt the need to take it to a sad place.
