I'm blaming this one on the season but seriously why did this pop into my head at work.

I stand here, fists clenched as they lead my friend NO! the sorcerer to the pyre.

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

I'd seen it with my own eyes the man I'd thought I'd known a sorcerer. He couldn't be trusted, he deserved this.

It's just a spell

Maybe it I should stop this, renounce my claim it not like he hurt anyone. NO! magic is evil I know that, he's just messing with my head.

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

I just have to wait; the flames will cleanse the sorcerers magic and release me from his hold

It's just a spell

I meet his eye and see a look of despair and betrayal.

It's just a spell

I'm not betraying anyone. He betrayed me

It's just a spell

I could feel the heat against my skin

It's just a spell

I can hear his screams but I force my self still. I won't be controlled.

It's just a spell

Tears prick my eye. My nails dig into my skin. I want to run, to hide even just to look away but I can't. I have to see this. It's the only way to be sure, to be free. I have to remember

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

He's silent now, I think he's dead but it not enough. I still feel this terrible guilt, this grief.

It's just a spell

I feel a hand try to tug me away but I stand firm I have to see this threw, I have to.

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

The chocking smell fils the courtyard settles into my hair my cloths. I think I'm alone now but still I wait, I can't leave yet not till I'm free.

It's just a spell

It's just a spell

I stare my eyes burning till suddenly I realize the fire had gone out. There is noting left but dust and bone.

It's just a spell

It hits me then as the guards begin to clear away the ash. My knees give out on me as a crumble to the cobblestones.

It wasn't a spell

So, Arthur found out about Merlin's magic and didn't take it well. But this could be anyone in Camelot anyone who turned in a friend, a neighbour, a family member because they've bought into Uther's paranoia. When you think about that's what's so insidious in Uther's philosophy how do you prove you're not a danger when any love, friendship or comradery someone feels for you can be hand waved away as enchantment. Even though in the show we're see that if you were enchanted you couldn't even think of turning against your enchanter.
