A Parking Lot Revelation

Mai leaned her forehead against the frosty window, feeling a chill seep into her body. It was freezing that day, and snowing. The girl deliberated over whether to go make herself some hot chocolate, and decided against it – she was comfortable where she was.

She looked out the crystal-coated window and saw big, fuzzy snowflakes spiraling lazily down to the parking lot behind her apartment. Usually quite a few cars were parked there, but today there was only snow. A large expanse of creamy whiteness, spreading like a blanket over the black pavement.

Mai thought absentmindedly that the snow seemed lonely, somehow. Beautiful, but foreign and unapproachable. It kind of reminded her of Naru, a bit. Cold. Severe. But, everybody loves snow, for the days off from school, of course. And people hated it too, when it made the roads slick, and melted into dirty, black puddles.

It won't be long now, she supposed, Until it melts. Into that gross black mush. Mai wished she could take a picture in her mind of the snow as it was now, in this moment in time. It felt peaceful, restful. She wanted to cement the image in her mind before it disappeared – the snow, undisturbed by the smallest footprint. Clean, pure.

Mai sat up ramrod straight as she saw a black-jacketed man stride toward her parking lot, "No! Don't step on it! You'll ruin it!" she shouted in vain at the interloper, wildly waving her arms about as if that motion itself was enough to ward him away.

Too late. The man's foot stomped down on her perfect snow and ruined the illusion. Mai slumped back in her seat – her beautiful, beautiful snow! She had to make him pay. Mai smashed her nose against the cold window in an attempt to make out the man's face. The black jacketed person turned, and she jumped from her chair.

The bastard who had ruined her mood was Naru of all people! Mai stomped across her apartment and out the door in nothing but her pajamas, intent on giving Naru a piece of her mind.

Damn that Naru. Now I'm pissed, and cold! She could already feel a snowball fight in the making.

the end.
