First: I am not a native English speaker, so please excuse any errors and if you don't mind it would really, really help me if you would let me know so I can correct them.
Second: This is based on a stunning fan art from Fili and Kili, and I would love to give whoever draw it more credit, but I can't find it anymore. The title also come from that picture.
I hope you enjoy it :)
Go To Sleep, Little Brother
Blood slowly trickled out of Kili's mouth. It found its way to the cold stone beneath him, where a puddle was already forming. The young dwarf had lost a lot of the red, life saving liquid.
Fili was in no better state than Kili. His body was laced with thick, black arrows. The blonde knew there wasn't much time left for them.
The battle was still raging but for the two brothers time stopped. Nothing was important anymore besides each other not even the dead body from their uncle. Fili and Kili had tried to protect it but in the end they weren't able to finish their last task.
Now they would die for a quest without ever knowing the outcome.
"Kili?", asked his brother. His voice was weak and tiered.
Painstakingly Fili managed to pull the archer on his lap. Kili's eyes fluttered open but he wasn't able to focus on anything. His gaze drifted into emptiness.
Fili could feel his life leaking from him. He had just enough power to hold on to his brother but soon Kili would slip from his arms. That thought made the blonde sad. His arms always used to be a safe haven for his brother but now when Kili needed him the most; Fili shouldn't be able to give him the known comfort?
"Fee… It doesn't hurt anymore." slurred Kili just loud enough for his older brother to hear.
Tears welled up in Fili's eyes. He didn't want to die! Not so young; there were still so many things they wanted to do! To rebuild Erebor was just one of their plans. And know neither would ever see the mountain in its full glory.
"Go to sleep little brother. I will stay with you until you do.", whispered Fili to Kili.
"But we won't wake up again, will we?"
"Not this time, Kili. Not this time", answered his older brother. Tears were running down Fili's face, leaving clean stripes on his otherwise dirty face. "But that doesn't matter. You see, we will meet all our ancestors and dad! Nothing will ever separate us again." His lip quivered. "But you have to promise to not enter Mahals Halls without me. Can you do that for me?"
"I would – ", Kilis voice was scarcely audible but Fili would understand his brother even if he would talk elvish backwards. "I would do anything for you."
"I love you brother." Murmured Fili in a soothing tone, such as he did when Kili was still a toddler.
A smile flashed over Kili's face. Suddenly he grasped his brother's hand and squeezed it briefly.
Than all the tension left Kili's body. He was dead.
Now his duty was fulfilled, Fili thought content. He had brought his little brother to bed and Kili was sleeping peacefully. He would never have any nightmares again.
Fili closed his eyes and never opened them again.
Feedback is more than welcome.
