Family Day Out
It was the first Saturday they had had off in months, and the first day where all their problems and arguments were behind them.
Callie and Arizona were swinging Sofia between them, grinning gleefully at the little girl's squeals of delights every time she was hoisted into the air.
"Where do you want to go baby girl?" asked Callie. Sofia grinned up at her.
"Park, to feed the duckies!" she exclaimed.
"Off we go to the park then kiddo" replied Arizona.
The threesome wandered down the street until they came to the high gates that were the entrance to their local park. Sofia rushed off happily to the lake with both her Mum's calling after her to stay close. As they watched their little girl taking off at the speed of light, their hands found each other as they had always used to before the crash.
Life had been so good for them before that eventful day but since Callie had made the fateful decision to amputate Arizona's leg; their relationship had been difficult and strained. Now however, on this beautiful, sunny, Seattle day, it seemed as though the past few months were a distant memory.
Arizona broke the silence first,
"I'm sorry Calliope"
"For what Arizona?"
"For everything. For the way I've treated you these past few months, for blaming you for the decisions you made. I shouldn't have behaved the way I did and I would really like to try and make it up to you." Callie listened intently to Arizona as she apologised. As she did so, all the anger and hurt she had been feeling towards her wife dissipated as she realized that her Arizona, the woman she had fallen in love with, was back.
Callie snaked an arm around Arizona's shoulders as she wondered how to respond.
"I thought I'd lost you for good Arizona. After the crash and your operation, I thought we would never be the same again. I'm sorry that I went back on my promise and I'm sorry that you went through so much pain to get to this moment. But I am so happy that you're back, that you're in a good place now."
Arizona blinked back tears that were threatening to fall as she stopped still where they were walking. Callie looked at her in confusion wondering why they had stopped. Arizona brought her hand up to stroke Callie's cheek and then pulled her wife's head down for their first kiss since the accident.
It was magical. Soft and packed with the desire that both women felt, it was a miracle that neither of them began to do anything slightly more inappropriate.
"I love you Calliope" Arizona choked out.
"I love you too Arizona," smiled Callie.
Their magical moment was broken as Sofia came crashing into their legs.
"Momma, Mummy! Come on I want to feed the ducks!" she screamed excitedly.
The two women took a small hand each and they walked down towards the lake together. For the rest of the afternoon the happy family fed the ducks and ate ice cream as they played together in the park.
All in all, it had been a great family day out.
