She was beautiful.
Granted, Lucas knew this. He'd found Maya attractive since the moment she came up to him in the subway (Riley was gorgeous, as well, but how could one compare the glory of the sunrise with the splendor of the moon?).
It was getting to know her that truly made the impact. Fiery and rebellious, and oh-so-different from the good girl he had previously believed himself to have fallen for.
The sixteen year old in question was passed out on the couch, blond hair spilling all over her face. The somewhat compromising position was made all that better, by the fact that she was sleeping on his couch; the only person in which Maya had ever let her guard down enough to sleep, was Riley.
It was an honor to be able to know that she trusted him to watch over her. Still, he snapped a picture on his phone- even as two juniors in high school, the game was still going on, strong (besides, Riles would appreciate an extra photo for the friendship album she was not-so-secretly working on).
Grinning deviously, Lucas lifted up the covers slightly and sat down next to her. Maya was leaning on her knuckle, and her legs were all curled up. He shifted her slightly, so that her head was now resting on his shoulder.
(Lucas attempted to justify this with the fact that Maya would have a sever crick in her head, if left to that position. It didn't work.)
She murmured incoherently in her sleep, pulling the blankets up higher and settling herself on Lucas's lap. Looking down, a little shocked, Lucas couldn't help himself. His hands drifted down to Maya's long, blonde hair, as he carefully stroked the blonde locks.
Maya sighed contentedly, and Lucas was surprised at how at peace she was. Being awake, a permanent poker face was usually her shield-
But, now? Her features were soft and it took all of Lucas's willpower to not kiss all of her rough edges away. Instead, his fingers expertly braided through the golden strands, enjoying the way the light from the window shone off it.
"You're not letting me sleep, Huckleberry." Came the groggy moan. Lucas froze, as two pairs of bright blue eyes looked at him, questioningly.
Maya smirked, seeing from the edge of her eyes the plethora of hairstyles he had done, while she slept. "Busy?" She asked, quirking her eyebrow.
"I-I'm just- uh-"
Maya chuckled, before reaching up and raking her hands through Lucas's hair. He merely watched her, slack-jawed and confused.
"Maya?" He questioned.
The blonde looked up at him, and the serene expression on her face was still apparent. "Hush." She demanded, before leaning in, ever so slightly, until their lips connected.
Lucas reacted almost immediately, as Maya interlocked her arms around his neck. Kissing her, was like having electricity crackling through his veins.
Maya pulled back, and Lucas had to hold back his expressions of disappointment. She obviously got the gist of his thoughts, from his expression, for she pressed a long finger to his lips. "Naptime is now, Ranger Rick." She stated, before dropping her head back down to his lap.
Lucas looked down at her, as she curled up around him, and his heart practically swelled.
Maybe it was stupid. Maybe it was cheesy. But, oh god; he felt like the luckiest man in the world. Lucas ran his hands through her hair, once more.
Maya purred, in approval.
