[Woo! One-shot! On the same day as my update and everything! I wrote this in math class ages ago, but I just found it. (Maybe that's why I'm failing math?) Please review and stuff!]

It was raining that day. The droplets were so small that she could barely feel them, but there were so many that the entire world was soaked. She walked slowly, the rain soaking through her coat. She was cold, of course, but she didn't care as long as it meant she could reach him.

She had known something was wrong from the time she woke up, but she had only received the call a few minutes ago, as the rain had started.

She had been nearby. Why bother with a cab? She regretted it now, as the slippery sidewalks prevented her from running, and she couldn't ride in a car, wet from the rain as she was. She knew she needed to hurry, but her body was already fighting the cold, and the ground was like an oil slick.

...

She walked into the hospital, soaking wet, and moved to the front desk, half-whispering his name. Words from the phone call bounced around inside her brain.

...building collapsed... many casualties... critical condition... hospitalization... getting worse...

"Right this way, miss."

Normally someone would tell her where to go, but they must have seen how unstable she looked, because a nurse walked with her down the hall.

...

The door might as well have been a headstone for as dreary and daunting as it seemed to took a breath and pushed it open, reeling back at the sight of the bloody bandages covering her mate's body.

"Sesshomaru..."

She moved to the chair by his bed, careful not to move the many wires, and took his hand.

"I told you to stay home," she whispered, tears flowing from her eyes, "I told you, but you didn't listen."

She had known something was wrong, and asked, begged him to stay home, but he had ignored her, insisting on going to work.

"Why couldn't you just..."

She trailed, sobbing silently over her mate's broken form.

"Ka..go..me.."

Her head snapped up.

"You idiot," she murmured, still crying softly.

His eyes were open, but he stared blankly. For a moment she thought he was still asleep, but then his eyes shifted to her face.

"Where are-" he winced, "-the children?"

"Sango-chan is babysitting."

"I should have figured as much."

"Sesshomaru... as much as I want to talk to you... you need you rest."

"Stay with me?"

She smiled softly, "You have to ask? Of course I will."

[Hm. I think up some pretty cool stuff when I'm in math class. Please review and check out the poll on my profile.]
