Hello, this is my first fanfiction story for Sleepy Hollow. It's a short drabble of what I have imagined as to how Katrina met Ichabod. Hope you like it and remember, reviews are good, flames are bad! (Note: Katrina is not a witch in this fic. She's just a normal lady).

Katrina Van Tassel never believed in soul mates. She was brought up to think that women should be well-versed in the Arts and marry handsome, rich men. Her family was in the middle class so money wasn't too much of an issue; but when things were tight, it became a weight upon her family's shoulders. One day, Katrina was visiting the Town with her childhood friend Clarice when two handsome gentlemen stopped them in their tracks.

"What great pleasure it is to meet two lovely ladies such as yourselves on a lovely day like this." One of the gentleman said cheerily. He wasn't particularly handsome but his appearance is still pleasing to the eye. "You are much too kind Sir." Katrina answered with a beautiful smile as she blushed a light pink. "I was merely stating the truth." The gentleman replied with a smile of his own. "May we accompany you ladies while you're in Town?" The gentleman asked as he held out his hand.

Katrina was a little surprised that a man she doesn't know is asking if he could accompany her and Clarice as they continue their visit to Town. She then glanced at said gentleman's companion and she felt a light spark as she gazed into his deep, azure eyes. It was as if Cupid himself had shot an Arrow of Love and made her feel drawn toward the gentleman standing behind the first. She then regained her composure after a few moment's silence and accepted the first gentleman's offer and was met with another dazzling smile.

A few weeks after their chance encounter in the Town square, the light blonde-haired gentleman that spoke to her, whose name is Abraham Van Brunt, came to call on Katrina at her home and asked her father's permission to court her. Katrina's father gave Abraham his permission on condition that Abraham will not cause his daughter any emotional or physical harm. Abraham accepted the terms and went out of the study to tell Katrina the good news.

3 years later, Abraham invited Katrina to his stately home and it was there that he announced to all of his friends and family that he and Katrina are to be engaged. Katrina smiled as politely as she could muster as she accepted congratulations from everyone but her heart was slowly breaking seeing that she will never be together with the one that she truly loved. Katrina never believed in soul mates. She does now.

"If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, then they're yours. If they don't, then they never will be."

The End
