A/N- A little something i wrote when i was bored- i figure she had to meet B4 sometime, and was wondering what her reaction would be. Didn't come out quite like i thought it would, but, hey, if you don't mind...

I wish i could say i own B4, but i can't. R/R.

Charlotte rubbed her eyes and tossed her PADD onto the coffee table. Usually, she'd be able to finish a book in a few days. This one had taken a week, and it still wasn't finished.

She felt a flash of irritation, then sighed. Her emotions had been erratic lately, and she had been on edge, trying to make sure she didn't say anything she would regret. It seemed Data's death had taken a greater toll on her than she would've liked to admit.

The door chimed, and she stretched and uncurled herself. "Come in," she said wearily with a yawn.

"You are Charlotte Hope."

Charlotte gave a muffled shriek and nearly fell off her chair. She edged away till her back was touching the wall on the other side of the room, both hands over her mouth, eyes staring.

A man who looked like Data but couldn't possibly be him stared back at her from across the room. They held each other's gaze for what seemed like an eternity, until the silence was broken by a third party.

"B4? B4?!" Geordie shouted, racing down the corridor. "Where is that crazy android?!"

He passed her door, but backtracked when he saw it was open. His artificial eyes quickly took in the scene: the confused android just inside the doorway and the terrified girl on the opposite side of the room, locked in a bizarre staring contest.

He entered the room and sighed, holding his hands out so as not to frighten her any more. "Calm down, Charlotte. It's all right."

"It is all right," echoed the android by his side.

Charlotte pressed herself to the wall and raised a shaking finger. "Who… is… that?"

The android stepped forward. "I am B4." He cocked his head. "You are Charlotte Hope. Your face is imprinted in my memory banks."

Geordie patted his arm. "That's enough, B. Come on, let's go." To Charlotte: "I'll explain later."

"Wait." Charlotte stepped forward hesitantly. "W-What do you mean, my face is in your memory banks?"

"I have all the memories of my brother, Data. You seem to feature in a great deal of them."

"Your brother?" She looked at Geordie, confused. "Another one?"

"Yeah; we found him on a planet near the neutral zone. He's a prototype."

Charlotte nodded, calming down. She walked forward and gingerly touched B4's face, stared into his eyes, before her own eyes filled with tears and she snatched her hand back as if it had been burnt. "Oh, Data," she whispered, voice breaking.

Geordie once more tried to shift B4, but the android was fixated with Charlotte and wouldn't move. "Why are you crying?" he inquired, studying her face.

She wiped her eyes and tried to stifle her sobs. "I'm not."

"Yes, you are." He paused for a moment, then stepped forward. "Is it because of my brother? Because of… Data? Do you miss him?"

"Yes!" Charlotte wailed, latching onto him and burying her head in his shoulder. B4, completely and utterly caught off-guard, looked at Geordie for help, and Geordie shrugged. So he looked to his memory banks instead, and after finding something, drew his arms around the girl crying into his shirt and held her close.

As Charlotte's sobs died down, she realised what she was doing and tried to pull away, but B4 was still holding her. "You can let me go now," she said softly, and he did. She backed away a few steps, smiling a little. "Thank you."

"For what?" the android asked, cocking his head in a way that was disturbingly Data-like.

Feeling the tears rising again, Charlotte abruptly turned away. "Geordie, please take him away."

Geordie nodded silently and tugged at B4's sleeve. "Come on, B. It's time to go now."

B4 finally acknowledged Geordie's presence, and with a parting look at Charlotte, followed him out of the door, and Charlotte, with a shaky sigh, collapsed into her chair.
