Lola Bunny Winchester

Sam heard the clanging of the door, followed by his brother's heavy footsteps on the stairs. When he looked up Dean had one of those plastic pet carriers, and Sam couldn't decided whether he was more confused or curious.

"What's that?" he asked, sounding slightly wary. There was no telling what kind of creature his brother had captured and brought home for God knows what reason.

"I got a pet." Dean announced.

"A pet?" Sam questioned. "You?"

"Yeah, me. What, I don't strike you as a pet person?"

"Well, you're allergic to cats, and there's no way you got a dog small enough to fit in there." Sam observed. "And I don't really see you as a reptile kind of guy."

Dean flashed that lopsided grin of his, a mix of cocky and excited. "What about a rodent kind of guy? I got a rabbit."

"Dean, rabbits aren't rodents." Sam corrected before his brain had fully processed what his brother had said. "They're...wait. A rabbit? You got a rabbit?"

Dean opened the, unfortunately, very pink carrier and pulled out a decent size rabbit that was almost orange in color. The rabbit wasn't happy to be dragged from the safety of its little plastic cage, and struggled for a moment, but Dean cradled the skittish animal to his chest and stroked its head.

"You're okay, sweetheart." he murmured, and then smiled once his new pet had calmed down. "Her name's Lola."

"Lola?" Sam almost snorted.

Dean sat down at the table, Lola still snuggled against his chest. "Come on, Sammy. We all know that if I have a pet rabbit, I'm gonna name it Bugs. It's a given. But she's a girl, and the female equivalent of Bugs is Lola. Besides, she looks like a Lola, doesn't she?"

Sam considered the rabbit, who seemed perfectly comfortable in Dean's arms. "Yeah. I guess she does. Hi Lola. Welcome home, I guess." He reached out to pet the rabbit, and it felt like he was touching a cloud. "Wow. That's the softest thing I've ever felt."

"She's a rex." Dean said, proud of his knowledge. "Some kind of mutation that makes them super soft."

Sam couldn't resist the softness, digging his fingers lightly into Lola's plush coat and absentmindedly petting his new roommate while she nibbled on Dean's finger. "She's kind of cute."

"Kind of?" Dean scoffed. "Pfft. Please. She's adorable."

Sam had to agree. "Why'd you get a rabbit anyway?"

Dean shrugged. "I always kind of wanted a pet. You know, like a normal kid. But with the way we moved around it wasn't possible. But now that we have an actual home other than the car, I figured it was time."

"But why a rabbit?"

"Mostly because I'm not allergic to them and they aren't creepy like snakes." Dean said. "But come on. Who could say no to this face?"

Sam watched in amusement as his brother cuddle the rabbit, dropping a kiss on top of her head.

"Come on, Lola." Dean said, standing up and letting her scamper back to the safety of her box. "Let's go get you set up."

"Hey!" Sam called as his brother headed toward his bedroom. "Does this mean I can have a dog?"

Dean couldn't resist the hopeful expression on his brother's face. "Yeah, I guess so. But none of those little squeaky purse things. Get a real dog."

"Says the man who just adopted a rabbit named Lola." Sam teased.

"Just wait until you piss her off, and she takes a chunk out of your finger." Dean shot back.

As soon as Dean was out of the room Sam booted up his laptop and Googled animal shelters in the area. No sense in giving his brother time to change his mind.
