Kintsukuroi

Kintsukuroi; (n.) (v. phr.) "to repair with gold"; the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.

She was broken at such a young age. She was robbed off parental love and shunned away from the people she protected. And so she locked her heart, leaving the door open just for her brother and her sister. She was scared to let anyone else in.

But she had a huge heart—it was way too big for just Elfman and Lisanna. And it hollowed even more when Lisanna disappeared. Fairy Tail had been cracking their way in, but deep inside there would always be a hole in her heart that cannot be saved.

She was scared of love.

He was broken at such a young age. He never experienced a true parental love to begin with, and he had to beg for his grandfather's attention. He grew up believing that power equals to love. He grew not knowing how to love.

He couldn't lock his heart. He didn't have the key to open it from the very beginning. But the moment he was exiled from Fairy Tail leaving Raijinshuu behind, he realized how much love he was receiving—even if it wasn't from his own parents. And it had nothing to do with power.

He knew not how to love.

They were both broken, and they were both slowly patching up what was lacking in their hearts. Mirajane felt fully healed when Lisanna returned. And Laxus swore to protect the Raijinshuu when he was reaccepted into the guild. He surprised himself when he willingly sucked in Tempesta's poison. But he didn't care. Fairy Tail had filled the drought of love in their hearts.

He'd die for them. She'd die for them too. They had so many love to spare for others. Because he finally knew now how to love. And she was finally brave enough to love too.

"You really do care about your comrades now," Mirajane drawled when he was enjoying his drink leisurely. "I wonder how you would be when you love a woman."

"I knew not how to love," was Laxus' short answer.

"Not anymore," she smiled. "You're like an art of kintsukuroi. You're far more beautiful for having been broken."

Laxus' eyes flickered before staring at her angelic smiling face. He thought he would have forgotten her demon persona if she kept that up. "Aren't you more so? You suffered damage and came out more beautiful with all your imperfections."

"You and I both," Mirajane couldn't help but to give him a soft loving stare she usually only saved for her siblings.

Laxus looked away, slightly blushing at the gushing of her love from a mere stare. "My journey of redemption has not yet ended."

"Yes," Mirajane nodded, her smile still persisted. "That, as well, you and I both."

They were both broken. They were both saved by Fairy Tail. They both had more than enough love to spare.

Like a kintsukuroi.

But someday—perhaps someday—at the end of their journey, they could spare more love for each other. And when that time comes, they will love each other bravely and perfectly.

The End.
