Before Clarke could enter the gates to Arkadia she was ambushed by her friends. Friends she hasn't seen in 3 months. To the 100, everything was picture perfect. They assumed she was back. Back to stay. Back to being their leader. Clarke listened to their stories. She listened to their adventures. A sad smile formed on her face. They were her missed adventures. Her missed time. Her time away from her friends. But her sadness still would to change her mind. Even after months alone, Clarke still couldn't face what she had done. They still haunt her in her sleep. On that day her decisions costing hundreds of innocent lives. The price they paid so her people could live was too great. She needed to leave and she needed to leave tonight.
Night finally came, Clarke quietly grabbed her pack and started to head towards the gates before a familiar voice filled the air.
"Where do you think you're going?"
It was Bellamy. Clarke slowly turned around unable to look at him in the eyes.
"Clarke…answer me."
Clarke felt her heart break as she heard Bellamy's voice crack. Him a soldier fighting back tears because of her.
Now it was Clarke's turn. Her turn to fight back the tears that were forcing their way out.
"I c-can't stay."
"It's been 3 months. I-We just got you back."
Clarke stared at the man in front of her. She didn't know what to say. She could feel Bellamy's anger rising. Anger that he stored up for 3 months.
"What happened at Mt Weather was NOT your fault. Why are you torturing yourself over this?! It was Monty who changed the system to allow us to irradiate level 5. I pulled the lever with you. All 3 of us did that. Not you."
"Octavia could have died because of me!" Clarke didn't have time to stop herself. She didn't realise that it wasn't Mt. Weather that was bothering her. It was the missile attack. She stared into Bellamy's eyes. Shock, confusion written in his face.
"What…?"
Clarke couldn't bear to look at Bellamy any longer. She couldn't handle the pain, hurt and betrayal once she told him the truth.
"The missile…I knew about it. I knew she was there. I left her to die."
Clarke took in a sharp breath and built up the courage to look at him. She felt like her heart had been crushed. All their friendship, all that they had endured together was crushed in an instant. In that moment she realised that it wasn't the faces she saved that haunted her. It was Bellamy's. It was him that she couldn't face every day knowing that she allowed his sister to be murdered. The person that he could move heaven and earth to protect. She allowed that person to be killed.
Before Clarke could break the silence between them, Bellamy turned his back on her. His eyes red, filled with tears, heartbreak and betrayal. Clarke was left standing in the middle of a cold night only managing a quiet apology to be carried by the wind to no-where before heading to the gates, alone, hurt and guilty.
