Mandy's hand rested on Roger's naked hip. He had already drifted away into heavy slumber.

Open window. Sound of nighttime Birmingham, summer, excitement. An owl flew in, stayed on the window-frame. Stared at Mandy.

Shiver down her body.

I'm not going to pretend. Not anymore, Mandy.

Your horrible announcement made me almost completely mad.

I've dreamt about you for so very long. Have you noticed that?

But I would like to thank you. Thank you for crushing my dreams, thank you for making me realise. I do actually mean it, my dearest Mandy.

Now I can live in reality.
