'So, I've gathered you all here today-'
'We know,'
'It's three in the morning, James,'
'Where have you been, anyway? I didn't see you at dinner,'
James glared at his three best friends.
'It's rude to interrupt, you know.' Remus raised his eyebrows.
'It's also rude to wake three people up at three in the morning. Three people that you don't even share a dorm with anymore.' James huffed.
'Do you want to hear this or not?'
'Not.'
'I don't.'
'Can I go back to bed?'
'No, Peter, you can't go back to bed. I have some momentous news to tell you.' Sirius rolled his eyes.
'And it couldn't wait until the morning?'
'No! Listen, this is proper, proper news.'
'What is it?'
'Thank you, Remus, for showing some interest. My news is... Lily said yes!' He stared around at the other Marauders, waiting for a reaction.
'Good one, James!' Sirius chuckled. Peter started laughing too, but Remus stayed straight faced.
'Don't you think she'll be upset if she hears you saying that?' James crossed his arms.
'I'm serious!'
'Nope, that's me.'
'Shut up, Sirius! I'm telling the truth!' Remus eyed him suspiciously.
'I don't believe it. Because if she said yes, you'd tell us straight away. And there's no reason that she'd be up at this time.'
'You don't get it, Remus. So, we were on the way to dinner, and I was saying that we should chaperone the next Hogsmeade weekend together- you know, 'cos when we split up, one group's always back late, or missing someone- and she gave me a weird look, So I said, that I wasn't asking her for a date, because, you know, I didn't want her to hex me, and she said, that she wouldn't mind if I was!' The other boys looked at each other.
'I think she probably just meant she wouldn't hex you.' James narrowed his eyes.
'Ever the sceptic, Sirius. But I know that's not what she meant, because then, she kissed me, and just walked into the Hall like nothing happened!'. They still looked unconvinced.
'What kind of kiss?' James looked at the floor.
'Well, on the cheek... but still!' Remus cocked his head.
'So where have you been?' James blushed.
'The library...' He mumbled. Sirius jumped up.
'Why on earth were you there?'
'I was hiding.'
'Why were you hiding?' asked Remus.
'Well... I was a bit shell-shocked. And just standing in the middle of a corridor didn't seem like a good idea.'
'So you're telling me that it's taken you this long to recover from the shock of Lily kissing you on the cheek?' James rolled his eyes.
'That's not all, she said she wanted to go out with me!' Sirius yawned.
'Okay, we'll ask her in the morning. I'm going to bed now.'
'Lilykins!' Lily smiled up at Sirius.
'Good morning, Mister Black.' Sirius plonked himself down next to her and grabbed a plate of bacon.
'I've been hearing strange stories about you,' Lily cocked an eyebrow. 'Yes, a certain Mister Potter seems to be under the impression that you want to go on a date with him.' Lily shrugged,
'Well, I suppose said Mister Potter has the right impression, then.' Sirius's jaw dropped.
'Are you- are you serious?' Lily laughed.
'No, that would be you. And that's another thing I thought I'd never cave in to saying.' Sirius stayed still, in shock. 'You look almost as surprised as James did.' She stood up as James came in. 'Morning, James.' She kissed him swiftly on the cheek and departed from the Great Hall. James dropped down in her vacated seat next to Sirius.
'I knew it was true!'
