"You left me here," he said to her, "how could you do that to me? To the kids? Michael will never be able to taste your great cooking. Anna will never be able to ask you for advice. How are they going to grow up without you there?" he had asked these questions many times before. He wanted someone to blame for this.
He shook his head and frowned.
"I brought this for you," he said taking a pale yellow rose out of his pocket, and allowed the silence that followed to be her thank you.
"I thought it would be a nice addition," he added while taking a look at the flowers surrounding him. He sighed and looked at the ground, "I miss you doll. I need you to be here with me. I don't think I can do this all alone."
He quickly brushed away the tear beginning to form in his eye. "I watched the news today, they said Tommy's new team saved the city again. Tommy told me to give you my best when I came, Billy's coming in next week, he said he wanted to see the kids, but we both know why he's really coming," he paused momentarily wondering if he should even mention Zack.
"Zack's not doing too well," He didn't want to add that Zack had quit dancing and moved back home recently. He knew in his heart that Zack had just given up when she died.
He wasn't going to add what he was thinking, but the truth was if it weren't for the kids, he would have given up ages ago.
"I haven't heard from Kim in a while now."
He checked his watch and noticed the time. "I have to go," he said as he stood up and brushed himself off.
"I'll bring Michael and Anna next time, " he added letting the lone tear fall, "Michael keeps asking for you."
Jason started walked toward his red truck and strapped himself in. He started to pound his head on the steering wheel. Why, What did she ever do. Jason knew there would never be an answer to his question, but he couldn't help but wonder. She was his light. She never did anything to deserve this. All she wanted was to help others, but apparently God needed her to help him.
He started the engine, and began driving back to work.
"Goodbye Love," he said watching his wife's tombstone in the rearview mirror.
