Fresh Air
From a prompt on tumblr. :3
Pairing: Masami angst, background Makorra

Summary: Asami is the one who sees the kiss. Set during ep 5, of course~
Wai did the anon have to do this to my poor heart. =/
No. This could not be happening.
She had just wanted to find Mako and wish him a goodnight. Was that so bad? Bolin had told her that he had gone outside for some "fresh air" and she certainly found him outside. She saw him conversing, somewhat angrily, with Korra and then in the next moment, her mind went blank.
Korra lunged forward and kissed Mako.
Now, Asami wasn't oblivious or stupid. She had seen the looks the Avatar had been shooting Mako's way lately. She had only prayed that he wouldn't notice, because really, who was she compared to the Avatar? She was just some rich girl that happened to be in the right place at the right time. She had gotten lucky with Mako. He didn't notice, as far as she knew.
At least, that's what she thought until now, because there they were, kissing right by the bay. She saw that Korra had made the first move, but Mako had not thrown her off into the bay. He returned her kiss with equal fire, she knew it. Soon enough, Korra pulled away, her face flushed a pretty pink, and opened her eyes…
…only to let out an anguished cry as she saw Asami standing there, clasping a hand over her mouth. Mako turned and his expression was confused and, when he saw Asami, horrified.
She felt the horrid sting of betrayal flow through her; in that one second, time slowed, and Asami could feel the heartbreak seep right into her very core, rendering her senses cold and numb. Her long lashes tried in vain to blink back the small tears that ghosted down her face. A part of her knew that Mako really liked her, that this wasn't planned or what he wanted. That part of her wanted to believe so badly that he kissed Korra back in the heat of the moment, nothing more and nothing less.
Unfortunately, she had seen Mako's own looks to Korra when he thought no one was looking. Was he even aware of it? He must not be, otherwise he wouldn't look so stricken, Asami thought cautiously, staring at the man before her. But that wasn't fair, because Mako was a gentleman and of course he knew the kiss was wrong when he had Asami. Any self-respecting man would look as dismayed as he did right now.
Asami did not wait around for any excuses or explanations; she did the only logical thing: run away. She ignored the calls of her name and the pleas to stop as she turned, willing her ears to block out the shouting that could be heard from Mako.
And run, she did.
I wish I could say I'm sorry. Blame the anon who sent me this prompt. /)_-
I'm enjoying this Asami writing much more than I thought I would...hm.
