(Edit: The chapters have been organized more clearly to make it easier to read. Also, I added a bit more content to make the story flow more smoothly.)

Chapter 1: The Amulet

Berk, a lonely island in the North Sea, has been in peace with the dragons for a couple months. It has been this way since Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the III, son of Chief Stoick the Vast, had destroyed the Red Death, the queen dragon responsible for the 300-year-long war between dragons and Vikings. Now that peace reigns between the two groups, allowing vikings to learn much more about dragons than they could possibly imagine. Along with this, historical texts were allowed into the daylight once again for hundreds of years. One piece of text will change how they communicate with dragons.

Hiccup, along with Fishlegs and a few others, were allowed by the village counsel to comb the archives, which have been untouched for centuries, to find long lost information on dragons and Vikings in hasn't found anything interesting or useful until he came across a certain book. The book has a blank cover and appears to be well worn despite being untouched for a long time. When he looked inside the book, he couldn't t believe his eyes; there was a whole trove of information, concealed and unknown to them. There were wondrous and mystifying tidbits, mysterious things galore. The one myth that stood out to him was very interesting.

"Hey Fishlegs, I found something here," Hiccup called out. In response, Fishlegs makes his way to him. "What'd you find Hiccup?" asked Fishlegs. He then noticed the book and it's contents in plain sight. He gasps in excitement.

"Oh my gods, can I see that Hiccup?" Fishlegs asked excitedly. Hiccup nodded and handed Fishlegs the book. He goes through the book, finding potion recipes for good and evil, myths they never heard, legends they never knew, and artifacts they've never seen.

"Just look at all this knowledge! We can use all this to help with so many things better!" said Fishlegs, astounded and in awe. "We could help Berk in so many ways!" Despite smiling at Fishlegs giddiness and excitement, he grabs the book to flip it to a certain page.

"While I do appreciate the thought Fishlegs, there is this one entry that stood out to me the most," said Hiccup as he finds the page he s looking for.

The page has writing that is ancient, yet remains the same as today's. It contains information on a mysterious artifact along with a couple of illustrations, depicting Vikings and dragons communicating. However, what stands out the most is an illustration of a decently sized red jewel encased in a silver holder, looking as if it belongs on a necklace.

"The Amulet of Speech," Fishlegs read the title aloud. "This amulet of immeasurable worth and potential allows the bearer to understand the language of the dragons," Hiccup continued and read on. "In turn also allows these creatures to communicate with us." Fishlegs ponders a bit before asking questions.

"'The language of the dragons,' as in dragons can speak to each other?" "It appears to be the case," answered Hiccup.

"I think it would be cool if our dragons could talk to us," continued Fishlegs. Hiccup thinks for a moment, reflecting on his desire to know what Dragons could say.

'What I wouldn't give to understand my best friend.'

He decides to read on further into the passage. "Due to the devastating effects it could have, all but one of these amulets were destroyed, with the last one being hidden away." The two sat there for a moment, figuring out how these amulets could have such destructive potential.

"Rumors have it that the last amulet will only reveal itself to the one it deems most worthy of bearing it, that way, the amulet s power shall not be exploited," Hiccup read aloud as he finished up the page.

They looked at each other, only wondering two things. How would it decide if one is worthy of bearing it, and if it does decide, then who would it be? They had this thought on their minds for the remainder of their search.

Meanwhile...

Toothless, a Night Fury and Hiccup's Dragon, is strolling through the woods close to the village. His rider is currently attending to some business with his friends, leaving the black dragon to himself. Because of this, Toothless didn't have much to do, not even them soaring through the skies together. He decided to take a walk in the woods, just to clear hos head.

As he is doing this, a breeze passes by him. With his keen hearing, he thought he heard the slightest hint of a gentle tune in the wind. Just as quickly as it had happened, it was gone, vanished completely. The dragon just shrugged it off and continued with his day, having no idea on what is about to conspire soon.
