You Would Know
Sam had just settled into his new two-bedroom apartment with his girlfriend, Jess. She had begged him to have some family over to see the place and meet her. Sam reluctantly agreed and invited Dean – making sure to tell Dean that his 'roommate' and he had just settled in and Sam wanted Dean to see the new place.
Jess was cooking dinner and Sam was setting the table for her when they heard a knock on the door.
Jess smiled at Sam who gave her a small kiss on the lips before greeting Dean.
"Hey, Sammy," Dean said as he was let inside the living room.
"Hi, Dean," Sam said as Jess came over to greet Dean, "This is Jess. Jess, this is Dean, my brother."
"Big brother to you, little brother," Dean said as he kissed Jess' outreached hand.
Roughly ten minutes passed of catching up, before Dean asked, "So you wanna show me the place, Sam?"
Sam reluctantly agreed, stating, "There's not much else to see."
Sam showed Dean their study, equipped with two brand new laptops. Sam showed Dean his bedroom. And he showed Dean Jess' bedroom.
"Sam," Dean asked, "Why does Jess' room have a king size bed? Maybe you should shimmy up there. Unless you already are..."
Sam hit Dean over the head, saying, "No, I'm not."
Dean rolled his eyes and retorted, "Yeah. Right."
The rest of the night went just as planned. Dinner, dessert, goodbyes.
Two days later, Jess entered the living room where Sam was watching some type of court case on TV.
"Sam, have you seen my laptop," she asked, "It's been missing since your brother came to visit. When he showed you his new one, did he take mine by accident?"
"I call him," Sam answered and grabbed the phone.
Sam dialed Dean's number and on the third ring got an answer.
"What's up," Dean asked.
"Did you take Jess' laptop?"
"I would never," Dean exclaimed.
"Dean, I'm not saying you did or didn't. She just needs to know."
"Sam, I'm not saying you are accusing me or not. I'm just saying: if you really slept in 'your' room, you would see it in plain sight."
Sam heard the click, signaling the end of the phone conversation. That's when he jumped up and ran into the guest room – or 'Sam's room' – and scanned the area. There, sitting on the bed comforter, was the missing laptop and a small note.
Sam-
I guess you already shimmed on up there. Congrats, man.
