Gone but not Forgotten

There weren't any options left. I had to resign from the Los Angeles Police Department because I failed to protect Nina. Sure, Kensi was jealous since Nina and I start a brief relationship, but she didn't have to die. It isn't fair. I should have taken the bullet, not Nina. So, here I am, locked up in my room with a gun on the bed and my phone that I smashed into smithereens out of anger and guilt after the team called me. It was time for me to die.

As I picked up the gun and pointed it at my head, I felt a presence as if someone was calling my name, telling me not to end my life over Nina's death. "Marty, don't do this. It's not your fault that I died. I wanted to protect you from getting shot." I figured it out. It was Nina. "Deeks, come with me. I want to show you what it would have been if you died instead of me. Take my hand."

At this point, I thought that I was going crazy but Nina was right. Taking her by the hand, we walked into a bright light. I wanted to ask her about where we were but she didn't answer. Instead, we were in the Special Operations office, where everyone was mourning my what if death. "I can't believe that he's gone. Kensi, I'm going to miss him!" It was Nell, sobbing into Kensi's shoulder after hearing that I died while saving Nina's life. Callen and Sam, on the other hand, were sitting at their desks and Eric was comforting Nell after Kensi went back to her desk. As the quote goes, men don't cry, but this time, tears were streaming down their faces.

"Deeks, if you took that bullet, then nothing would be the same and you would have joined Dom and Lara. Kensi wouldn't have a comic relief yet sweet partner. You two have feelings for each other." Nina was right, but Kensi was like the sister that I never had rather than a lover. But, before I knew it, we were at the place where Nina was killed. Callen, Sam, Kensi, and myself were hiding behind a car during a shootout. "1,2,3, shoot!" As we shot at the bad guys, I saw Nina in the cross fire. I wanted to go after her, but Callen told me to stay the last guy went down, we walked out from the car and surveyed the area. Each of us felt their pulse, but they were dead anyway. Then, I saw her body-Nina's dying body. Noticing that I was running towards Nina's body, Kensi chased after me. "Deeks? Deeks!" When she approached me, she saw Nina's limp body. I knelt down and rubbed her cold face. "Ma…rty…I…" Before I knew it, she was gone. I wanted to break down but something was holding me back. There wasn't a sign of Nina anywhere but there was a figure, leaning over me. "Deeks! Thank god you're okay." It was Kensi. Kensi Blye. My partner in crime. I rose from my bed and rubbed my head while she sat down on the bed. "I got worried after you didn't return any of my calls. How are you feeling since Nina's death?"

Nina's gone. I sighed and told Kensi that it would take some time to heal but I'll be fine. "Good, because Hetty wants you back first thing in the morning."
