He's Not Like You.
------------------------------

Marcy brushed her light blonde hair out of her face.
She looked at the house with a hint of fear burning
in her blood. Her mind urged her to stay calm, and
to breath. She knocked on the door quietly. She
waited their holding her hands tightly behind her back.

A maid answered the door. "Hello Miss. How may
I help you?"

Marcy drew a deep breath. "I am looking for Van."

"You mean master?" asked the maid.

"Um.... I'm looking for Van...." She said, standing
there, still at attention.

The women sighed. "Come in then." The maid opened
the door and walked in. This house was really big, or
at least it is to a girl raised in the military. Only sixteen,
she'd earned the respect of so many armies it almost
seems funny.

"Up the stairs Miss......" The maid murmured.

"Marcy." Marcy said nodding to the woman. Marcy
trotted up the stairs her hands still clenched tightly behind
her. She opened the only door. She entered a room filled
with paintings. And he was there..... On the balcony,
painting. He turned around to look at me. His face was
astonished.

"Van!" She called happily to the man. He still stared at her.

"Leave me be Dragoon I am not sponsoring your group."
He said returning to his painting.

"Van, what's wrong? Don't you even notice it's me!?"
Marcy pleaded.

"Yes, Marcy, I know who you are. You are a dragoon,
a soldier. Everyone knows you." He said, still focusing on
the painting. Serge had never told her this was a different
Van! Go figure, the other Van would remember their
promise.

~Flashback

It was sunset. The sky was luminous, in a golden color.
Their adventure was finally over. Everyone was going
home. Karsh, Zoah, and Marcy had a mission. She was
leaving on a near impossible quest.

"Van?" Marcy asked, sliding closer to him. It was cold,
but she snuggled next to him just to feel him against her.
Van stared out over the water.

"Yeah Marcy?" Van asked, sending his attention to her.
His eyes fell upon her, and she could feel herself blush.
The wind blew and she moved even closer to him,
clenching his arm to her.

"I will be gone for a while.... Acacia business..... But,
when I get back..... can we, uh......... Get together?"
She asked hesitantly.

"Sure. Anything for you Marcy. Just come and see me,
and I'll show you the world." He said placing his eyes on
the young girl sympathetically. She snuggled up against him,
in the cold wind. The older crew sat around the fire in a
serious conversation. The teenagers on the other side.
But Van stayed with Marcy, to keep her warm in the cold
autumn wind.

~Back to story

"Marcy?" Van asked, as the girl stared off over the
horizon from his window. She turned to him quickly.
The brisk autumn wind. Her hair tossed in the wind.

"Hm?" She said looking to the young artist. He was
only twenty one, but his eyes reflect hundreds of years of
tragedy.She couldn't look away.

"I know you.... from.... my dreams...." He said placing his
brush down, and brought her close to him. "That night...
I don't know how I know it, but I do."

"You aren't like him though." she said saddly, raising her
eyes to his. He looked at her puzzled. "You look the same,
but you feel different. You feel more.... hurt."

Van looked out over the horizen. "So, you can't love me?"
He asked. Marcy looked out with him.

"I don't know."

And..... She left the rich painter, on another mission. She
never returned to him. His last work of his shortcut life,
was of her, on his balcony, her hair tossed in the wind.
