Alanna's anger flared. How did she let the situation become like this? She went up to him and slapped him right across the face.
"Don't you dare give me that rubbish," she said coldly to him before walking towards the carriage. Jonathon stared awed at her display of anger. He silently followed her. The journey was lifeless but Jon couldn't help noticing Alanna's piercing glare. They had finally gotten back to the palace and Alanna was cooling off.
"Alanna, I'm sorry," Jon stopped her. Alanna hugged him tightly.
"I know, I'm sorry as well," she whispered. The walked inside in eachother's arms with the fight already forgotten. The morning arrived slowly and Alanna had gotten a message from Jonathon saying to meet him in the stables. Alanna examined it and it burnt it in the fire. She walked to the stables and saw Jonathon smiling happily to himself.
"What are you so happy about?" Alanna said as she walked up to him. He stepped aside and revealed a new horse. It was dark in colour but gentle. Alanna cried happily. Ever since Moonlight got killed during her trip to the Pirate Swoop, where George now lived, Alanna had never fancied another horse.
"Where did you get her?" Alanna asked not taking her eyes off the horse.
"Don't you remember the foul that Moonlight and Darkness had? The one which we had to give away to the special sanctuary for horses because of it's broken leg," Jonathon said casually.
"Yeah what about it?" Alanna replied as she went to the tiny storeroom to find some sugar cubes. Jonathon followed.
"Well it just happens that it's much better and I brought it back for you, my sweet queen," Jonathon replied. Alanna stood amazed at him. His eyes danced as he went back to caress the horse.
"What do you want to call it?" Jon said suddenly.
"I think Moondust might be a nice name," Alanna said.
"Hey do you think I should take Darkness out and we could go for a morning ride," Jon replied. He took out a saddle for Alanna. It was the same one that she used when she had Moonlight. He them saddled Darkness and mounted. They rode over the hills to Port Caynn. The gentle water rippled and Jon and Alanna tied their horses up and walked up to the small beach. The sun was already making its way to the middle of the sky.
"Jon, I want to speak to you about our future," Alanna said as she strolled down to the restless waves. Jon turned his head slightly and followed her. The water lapped at their feet.
"What's on your mind my dear?" Jonathon asked weakly. Alanna sighed.
"It's the whole queen thing. I don't think I'm cut out for it," Alanna whispered. Jonathon looked pleadingly at her.
"What do you mean?" he asked carefully examining her face.
"I want to say that I don't think I should be doing all this," Alanna whispered.
"What are you going to do," Jonathon said dead seriously.
"Calm down. I'm not leaving. I just want to set some new rules. I can dress the way I like. I can do as I like and I can behave the way I like," Alanna compromised.
"Anything for you my Lioness," Jonathon whispered and caught her before the small wavelets reached her feet. They laughed. Everything was going to be different. They were going to be happy... together.
