"Lieutenant, the paperwork is over there. I need you to look over it. I'm sure you know just to check for any errors?" the inadvertent man requested.
"Yes sir," the blonde with the serious disposition replied as she evened out the messily gathered papers with a few taps onto the wooden desk. The blonde pulled the pen out from its inkwell and began to evaluate the papers with a finger on her chin. It was just a usual request for a private to be transferred to central. Not much out of the ordinary- other than the fact that the handwriting on the paper was even more messy than usual, and she knew it couldn't be anyone's but the colonel's. The curves and the breaks in the cursive that followed his sentences, she knew every bit of it. After all, she had been observing his work for a very long time.
After checking over the first pager and signing it she gently put the pen back into the inkwell and turned her head to the black haired man, sleepy as usual and leaning casually against the wall.
"Sir, are you troubled in any way perhaps?"
"What do you mean by that?"
"Well, your handwriting on these papers seems to be very discordant. Even more than usual."
The colonel smirked and crossed his arms. "Leave it to the hawk's eye to pinpoint my every flaw, huh?"
"Very clever, sir," the lieutenant retorted sarcastically.
"Well, if you really want to know, I actually have been somewhat troubled lately. Lack of sleep."
"That doesn't seem unusual at all, sir"
"True, but I guess it's finally really caught up to me. I could use a nap… or something." He questioned to himself while slowly making his way to the desk which the lieutenant was sitting at. He waited for her to finish the next page before he began to speak again.
"Lieutenant, what do you say? How about a nap? Just this once."
"Excuse me?" The blonde retorted as she turned around to face him with a baffled and embarrassed look on her face.
"I know you heard me. Please don't take me the wrong way, I just mean a nap and that's it. He put his hand on her shoulder. "Come on now, I'm begging you. I promise the work can get done later, it's on me, don't worry. I'm just so tired…." He tried his best to push out a yawn.
She rolled her eyes and slightly pushed away the paperwork, actually contemplating his request. She did care about his health an ample amount, but her contemplation was mostly because she thought if she let him get what he wanted just this time, then maybe he would stop complaining so much.
After a long pause the lieutenant sighed. "Just this once..."
The colonel looked astonished while he put his other arm around her and gave her a tight standing hug despite the fact that she was still sitting on the chair.
"Thank you Riz—lieutenant!" He choked up and blushed, still hugging her. How did that slip out? He felt a bit mortified and he hoped that she wouldn't change her mind because of his foolish slip up.
"Sir…." She paused, not offended at all, and maybe even slightly touched.
"Sorry… the colonel muttered into the corner over her neck that he had buried his head in while hugging her.
"Can we just nap already before I fall asleep on you right here?" he recovered into his original sleepy tone of voice as he questioned.
"Mm…" The lieutenant nodded her head, a gentle smile now forming on her face.
He may have been a somewhat foolish man, but he was warm, and she loved that about him.
