Lonely

The Time Lord was used to loneliness. He was the only one of his race after the war. Staying in one place frightened the Doctor. It reminded him of home, his family and friends. Who were all gone... The guilt of not saving them came every time he thought of them. At it's strongest, every time he saw families together, all huddles and smiles, it only widen the wound.

He ran. Ran and traveled through space and time in the TARDIS. Save people here, save people there, stop an Apocalypse from happening on a random planet... but even if he was awarded a hero's reward, it wouldn't bring back the ones he lost. Plus, he didn't like the spotlight anyways. It made him uncomfortable.

Humans were thick, and their conceited oblivious air disgusted the Doctor, but Rose was different.

When he pushed her away after his first visit to her flat, she was still there with him every step of the way. He thought she was going to leave him like everybody else did, but she seemed so happy on their adventures together. She gave him so much trust, her patience... even though the dangers were high and they didn't know each other that well. He didn't notice all that until they were dealing with the Slitheen and locked in the political office. All that trust and tolerance, brimming in her eyes... it was all for him. When the thought came that there will be a time for them to part ways, he couldn't stand to conclude the result.

He needed her with him.

Perhaps, not being lonely... wasn't such a bad idea after all.
